Why does it shoot so good ?

65 Kodiak, 60" and 47# shooting GT trads. 1535 with 175 gr. field tips, or original Ben Pearson painted wood arrows, shoots too good, I have to be careful not to break arrows.

Anyone know the closest bow made today to this original ?

lets see 1965 Kodiak 60" 47# nail driven machine hum........Anyone know the closest bow made today to this original ? no no I do not know of any bow built today that shoots as good as some older models do.I like the way the 65 shoots too.Some collecter and or bear bow shooters don't like the 1965 & 1966 as well as other years like the 1964 Kodiak.I love em all and love the way they shoot bd

I'm curious about something on that bow though.  I have one in 48#, and with both of them being odd poundages I wonder if the serial numbers are similar.  Mine is 5L4216....?

The '65 was ok, but I find the grip too big and clunky for me.  Those '59-'60 grips feel the best while the later models got bigger with higher shelfs. (yeah, I like the '64 too.)  By 67, they were back to making nice grips again.  

I'm with Bill on that weight theory...but bow doc would be the one to have seen and recorded the most weights.

The new Bear Kodiak is a dead ringer for a '65 although I don't know how they shoot.

Next 65/66 Kodiak I get is going to get a wood rasp taken to the grip.. Love the bow don't like the grip, as Lon said just to  chunky..
A comparison of the new one would be interesting.

no sales pitch here guy's (I ai'nt selling the bow anywho) but if you have a minute.There is a 1966 Kodiak listed for auction right now.I am the former owner of that bow.That one's grip was the biggest I had ever seen on a Kodiak it was huge.So you know me I cut the shelf down and made the grip more like a Bear take down ? Fred's grip ? S grip ? aka the 2000 style grip.Let me just say that bows shoots outstanding and if I was fat right now that little gem would be on the move back to Seattle bd

Bowdoc, your right, it's a nail driver !

Blackhawk, the grip is not a large grip.

If the 59-60 grips are any smaller than this, I don't think I could hold them well enough to shoot them, I don't have large hands I am a small-medium size in most things. I would have to handle them to see how the grips are, maybe someday.

Hey BowDoc,

Well it seems that the bow in question is moving to me here in Arkansas. I think I got a good price on it but anyway it's mine now. I've got a vintage spring arm quiver here waiting for it. Can't wait to shoot it.
