Old Ben Pearson.
« on: February 16, 2012, 10:33:00 PM »
I found this old bow at an auction.  No one bid against me because it was in Terrible shape. The finish was chipping and the wood looked all dried out. I was worried this bow wouldn't make it past the preliminary stringing.

I couldn't help it, the Maple riser against the white glass just called to me.  Just me bidding, meant I received a good price.

Some sanding and some Tru oil and here she is.  Ready to make a kid happy.

Sorry about the ugly String color, they are Syracuse colors, just using up my orange    :readit:

It always feels good to bring life back into an old bow...to wash away the grim...peel back the yesrs of neglect.  Sand away the bumps, the bangs and the abuse....to hold it hesitantly questioning whether the time spent was just wasted...to wipe on the first coat and see what remains; a remnant of former what was... or see some exotic wonder pop out at you....Yes they call to you...Enjoy
It is a sickness you know...

I spent some time with one of these bows a couple years ago and really enjoyed it.  It is a pleasant shooting, really forgiving bow that should prove to be a lot of fun!

My next door neighbors Brother in law (12) will be the recipient of this bow.

He doesn't know it yet but has made many of his own "stick" bows only to end in Bow failure and disappointment.

You are right Barry,it is a nice shooting bow. Highly overrated in my opinion.
