All this is making me consider actively collecting again. Last list I saw years ago I was 3 shy of a complete set. How many of you collect the books by Thompson and are you complete? Perhaps Cliff, or Tox Collector, or someone would be so kind as to post a new list as stuff is sometimes uncovered. There were 2 titles added during the time I was seeking them. "Claude's Big Trout" was the last one I acquired. I had a devil of a time finding it. How does it rank in difficulty?.....

You will find it difficult to get most collectors of Thompson to agree on what is a "book."

For instance.  Is "Lincoln's Grave" a book?   "Claude's Big Trout?"

What I would consider books are not that difficult to acquire, running down all the ephemera is the real challenge.   :)

I do need a copy of "His Second Campaign," cannot figure how all these years searching that I've never seen one.

I'm curious how many have both editions of "Lincoln's Grave?"

"Claude's Big Trout" isn't the easiest piece to acquire, but I've seen several copies over the years.

I am also missing "His Second Campaign". Never seen one either. Why would you not consider "Claude'
s Big Trout" a book? My copy is a hard backed book......

I always had doubts about such items as " A Red Headed Family" being termed a book....

I didn't say I "didn't" consider "Claude's Big Trout" a book.  I simply raised the question.  Putting hard covers on a piece doesn't qualify a published piece as a book.  I don't have a problem calling it book.

On the other hand "Lincoln's Grave" is simply a lengthy poem between hard boards and I'd call it ephemera.  I do have both the 450 and 50 copy editions.   :)

"A Red Headed Family" is one of a series published under "The Elzevir Library" and I have identified at least 8 more titles which are extremely difficult to locate.  I have a collector friend who has four titles besides "A Red Headed Family."

Sometimes we collectors become immersed in acquiring for the purpose of tallying more than our competitors.  I don't see it being much of a competitive game nowadays.  Most of us do it for our own reasons and enjoy the pursuit.  The benefit is that the more collections, the more chance some of these collections will eventually become secured in a repository for those who come later to enjoy.
