Bear Polar circa ?
« on: June 18, 2012, 01:44:00 PM »
I have recently obtained a late 1953 or early 1954 Polar longbow in 60#s, compliments of Leo Markert, thanks Leo. I went to a fathersday tournament held on saturday the 16th, which turn out was a Traditional Championship with the proceeds to benefit a local charity. Great! I brought some wood arrows and the Polar for the first time shooting this bow. I entered the open class, against the ILF, Black Widows,Pro Hoyts and carbon arrows. The format was to shoot in peer groups, the first twenty targets, then everyone was to turn in their scores and the top 5 goups would be determined. Then the groups would shoot targets 21-30. The first 30 targets where shot from the white stake. Then 1-10 would be shot again from the yellow stake, making a 40 target total! Well through thick and thin, no misses and a reasonable score of 322. Not to bad for shooting this bow for the first time,I won the open division by a point. It was the beginning of a great weekend.Thoroughly enjoyed the company as well as the surprise championship! This just proves once again that the bows of yesteryear are as capable today as they were when they were made even if it was back in the early 1950"s. Hope this give you Bear fans some pleasure and maybe some inspiration to dig out that beauty and have some fun! Thanks, Jacques

Nice! Just more proof that it's not the bow, it's the archer.
We are all here because we are not all there.

Not necessarily true! If the bow and arrow weren't capable, the archer wouldn't be either.
The equipment needs to balance.I am going backwards in the age of my equipment and am having a grand time doing it. In the upcoming weeks I will bring out some of my old friends!
The almighty english longbow! I have done shooting demonstrations with them. The last time I did so, was 2years ago. I had strke and haven't participated in the rennaisaunce since. So it is overdue for an appearance! Thanks,Jacques
