String lenght for a 1950's Kodiak Special

I have just recieved a 1957 or 58 Kodiack special in 50#@ 28" the bow is 68" long. I am dying to shoot it but do not have a string for it. Can anyone tell me what lenght string this bow shoud take?....Thanks in advance...Andre

String length is about 3" shorter than the bow length nock to nock; i.e. your bow is 68"  so string should be about 65".  The pre-made strings I have bought at shops seem to always list the given bow length, in your case 68".  also depends on what your optimal brace height is.  I have a 62" 57 Kodiak Special which shoots great with a 7" brace height, others will go up to 71/2.

Pack animal, Thanks for the info I appreciate it. I tried doing a search for kodiaks and string lenght but there are so maney post on these bows that it was impossible to sort thrue all of them and get the info I needed. How does your 57 Kodiak shoot?

I would purchase a quality Flemish string in the length of 65 inches from one of the folks on this site that make nice quality strings. You can then twist the string to the desired length that gives you the shooting quality and brace height that you like. Keep in mind that Flemish strings when new will stretch and adjustments will be needed to compensate.
