Savage Deathmaster?
« on: January 14, 2013, 08:42:00 PM »
Picked up a Savage Deathmaster a couple weeks ago, just now got a string for it.  My question is, I mainly shoot longbows and not sure about what a good brace height starting point would be for this style of recurve?  Any other stories/history or input about this bow would be appreciated.

Thanks

Most any bow will shoot well from 7 1/2" to 8".

I do not have one of these, but remember owners saying they prefer a higher brace height (around 8" to 8.5").

I've been looking for one of those for a while, and did see one here on the classifieds in a "heavier" weight than I could handle.

It seems there are a few followers of the SDM who know lots about them, with one being "Frisky" who frequents the *********** quite a bit.

Got pics of your SDM to post?  What are the specs?

It was the heavy one listed a couple weeks ago, sold to me as 68@29 just marked 68#.  I've got to take pictures of some surplus stuff in my hobby room that I'm going to sell and I will try and get some more pics of this bow.

Austin,

Look up the Aug-Sep 2011 issue of Traditional Bowhunter magazine and you will find an excellent article on Bob Savage and his bow design.  It's got lots of background info on the Deathmaster design...and a good read.
