I wish....
« on: March 09, 2013, 08:41:00 PM »
....all of my classic bows were worth what most guys think they are in the Tradgang classifieds.

Just an unqualified, unquantified and "in general" opinion, kinda amusing actually.

That may be true Doug.

There just seems to be a bunch of mediocre bows listed lately that guys want top collectible value for.

Then, on the other hand,  there's a 56" 1960 Kodiak in original condition that doesn't get a buyer at a better than fair price.    :dunno:

But they are!  They're worth what the seller and buyer agree upon.  Eventually the right two will meet.  I think every bow is worth between $100 and $400.  It's the new $1,200 bows I can't figure out.      :dunno:      Who would pay that for no improved accuracy or any significant speed increase with hunting weight wood arrows?

But back to the oldies & goodies:

That's the genius of that large auction site.  To convince you that you have won; when in fact you are just willing to pay more than any other human who knew about the sale.  The notification should say "Sucker!"

The ones that get you are the sellers who have seen a "new in box" 1959 bow sell for a gozillion and then think their twice-repainted, holed and cracked charmer is worth the same.

Trap, I know what you mean. I recently sold the "new in box" Wing Thunderbird on the Big auction. It was truly NOS. I set a reserve of $240 on it as I had no idea what it would do. My lead picture showed the shelf/strike plate area of the bow. Much to my amazement, it did $506.22.

A couple of days later, Mr. Tamerlane listed a bow with a picture similar to mine stating "we installed a new side plate and rest to give it that "new in box look". To say I was insulted would be an understatement! I feel like flooding him with ridiculous questions just to keep him busy!

I guess I am not seeing the issue about pricing, I see guys here who are buyers and guys who are sellers, some are turning a lot of bows, some are buying all the time, seems there is still a fair amount of profit

I have seen some high prices and am surprised when they occasionally sell, but I am happy for the guy making the $, heck some of us have made a penny or 2,or even a dollar on this stuff???

I recall lots of talk about a guy in Colorado who sets his price on the big auction site and sticks to it (maybe more than some think it should be)

Lastly I thought Mr Tamerlane is the son of one of the greats?? isn't he setting the high end of the market for us to boot

All that and I wish my bows were worth some of the crazier $$ listed

Kurt, Good point on setting the prices! I did not think of that! He's the designated decoy!

I got a PM from Jim (thank's Jim)
I mistakenly identified Al Readers son who goes by Little Bear 59 and Mr Tamerlane who is Little Bear archery, sorry for my confusion!!!
