help with '59 Kodiak serial number
« on: July 12, 2013, 08:10:00 AM »
I am restoring a '59 Kodiak and am nearly ready to do the lettering.  The finish on the bow had worn quite a bit and the first letter of the serial number was illegible.  What I have is this:

?E 715
  64"
  45#
   L

Was the first letter of the serial number indicative of the length and if so would it possibly be a "D"?  All that I was able to see was a very light indentation and it appeared to be a D but could have been a B.

This old bow is turning out better than I had hoped.  Once I got the old finish off and started putting the new finish on the colors really popped out.  The sight window has a reddish/purple tint to it, but the original finish made it appear dark brown.  I am really excited and anxious to see the finished product.

Most (if not all) 64" '59 has a serial that begins with D.

The 60" '59 serial begins with a B.

The 56" begins with AA.

Blackhawk has it right. And the second letter indicates when in the year it was made.

My 2 cents worth: I have two 1959 Kodiaks @ 64"; both serial #'s begin w/ "D". Good luck w/ the restoration. Keep us posted... looking to spruce these two up as well.

I bought a refinished 64 inch 1960 Kodiak a while ago...I am a serial number guy because the first two 60 Kodiaks that I bought just happen to have consecutive serial numbers...I did not even give the serial number on the 64 incher a bit of thought since it was such a good deal and since it is the only 64 inch '60 I have ever seen for sale...imagine my pleasure and surprise then when I got it and the serial number is DD650

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42
