? On dual shelf bows

Is Bear the only ones that made them?  Leaning towards an Alaskan Halloween.  Wondering how hard it is to tune these bows and hand shock.  It wouldn't be hanging on the wall but hunted.  Thanks

I think Pearson made some as well.  Tuning is like tuning a selfbow, or any bow that's far from center shot.  Spine is the critical issue and it's usually considerably less than if the bow were centershot.

Ben Pearson made a cougar model in the 50's that was dual shelf. Bear also made the Panda with a dual rest although not dual shelf.

My duel shelf bear alaskan halloween bow is #40 at 28" and shoots a 1916 really nice. I havnt found it to be hard to tune at all.

Nigel, the bear Alaskan 59/60 halloween bows are really like a modern R/D long bow. They have somewhat narrow limbs and while they may not be the fastest bow they are no slouch either.Very light in the hand too. Most will be lower draw weight but i have seen  them in 50 - 55 pounds too. The riser wood is usually just a plain straight grained wood of some kind, i think it may be walnut but not sure. Whenever i have a group over to the house to shoot bows my Alaskan is always the one most of the guys end up likeing to shoot the most.The shelf are not cut real deep but are as deep as most any D shaped long bow and are closer to center shot than most D shape long bows.Another great thing is you can pick them up at very good prices. You really cant go wrong with the Alaskan.

I picked up a Halloween Alaskan for less than $50 on the big auction site. Needs a little TLC but hard to argue with the price.

Dunno, hasn't arrived yet but from the pics it looks like it'll need some work.

I'll do some decent pics and post specs it when it shows up in the next day or so.

I thought it was worth tossing a $50 bid on and so had the son bid for me while I was traveling.

I would say $50-100 is about right.  I picked up a really nice one at a shoot this summer.  The guy also threw in a dozen vintage cedar arrows properly spined for this 30# bow and I got it all for $100.  Both of us were happy with the deal.

Glenn St. Charles made a R/L recurve in the 1950's just before he signed up with Bear. Ever wonder how come Bear's first recurve looks so much like Glenn's gen 1 T-Bird?
