Dating a Martin
« on: September 27, 2013, 11:28:00 PM »
Was at my local bargain hunting store today (named aptly enough: The Bargain Hunter) and picked up a nice looking Martin X-200. Being a Bear guy, I know next to nothing about the Martin line but the bow is in great shape and the price fair.  It's a 50#er and I thought if nothing else I'd use it as a back up to my Kodiak Hunter.

I have to say, it shoots very well although it needs a bit of tweaking for brace height.

Anyway, I've been all over the web and for some reason I can't seem to find anything resembling a serial number data base for these bows - not even a guess as to the age.

It's signed 'by Howatt' but that doesn't really say much since Martin's owned Howatt for so long. The serial number is 51243. Anyone hazard a guess as to year of manufacture?
