Nice Fred Bear Personal Item
« on: June 21, 2014, 10:42:00 AM »
Just purchased this knife of Fred's that was gift to him in Africa or India. Bought from Bob Kelley's Stepson. Fred gave this knife to Bob upon his promotion to President of Bear, and also received Bolo from Neil. I have once again been blessed with a good find.

Love to see a unique or one of a kind item turn up. Seems like they are few and far between anymore. Great find! Thanks for sharing

As an owner and fan of Scandinavian knives, I'm intrigued by this item. The box label is merely from a retailer of Scandinavian design items. The folks at this forum would undoubtedly be interested and helpful if you're inclined to know more. They're probably the world's leading Internet source for info on such knives:    Scandinavian Forum

Charles. Thank you for the reply. As far as I can tell this is a Pukko made from burl. I know E. Torndahl is like a big gift company and have tried to find knives. Have had no luck. The makers mark may help if I can find anyone familiar with it. This blade is a good quality steel. Have been searching for pictures or write ups concerning the knife. Have one person who believes they have seen it in a book I do not have. The best part is knowwing the knife's previous owners relationship to Fred and being able to vouch that it was Fred's. Narrowing down the story is the fun part.

Just discovered that you got your answer – I told you those guys know their Scandi blades.   ;)

You might be amused to know that no steel touches any deer I fell that is not part of a knife manufactured in Finland, Norway or Sweden.  I'll post some pictures at an appropriate place when I have the time.
