62 Grizzly strike plate
« on: July 09, 2014, 04:49:00 PM »
I just bought a 1962 Grizzly and the 7 section high profile strike plate is in pretty rough shape. Would anyone know where I can get a replacement from? All the ones I have seen are only 6 section.  The leather grip needs to be replaced too. The bow is in excellent shape, not a single stress crack in the glass. It looks new except for the leather on it. Any help would greatly appreciated!

I bought some from Jeremy, a member on here a few years ago, they were real nice.

3Rivers Archery sells what they call a 1959 style strike plate if you don't care to make one.  I did not have any vegetable tanned leather or I would have tried making one.

If you can find the correct leather for the grip, it is not terribly difficult to regrip it yourself.  You will need to buy a skivving knife to taper the leather where it overlaps.  I bought some leather scraps at Hobby Lobby and experimented with different cuts until I got the right fit when I did my 1959 Kodiak.  I used a piece of leather that I kept from when I worked in a tannery 37 years ago.  It was upholstery leather and was chrome tanned but it made a nice grip and it has some sentimental value too.

I used contact cement and I have seen where a lot of guys say that they use Barge cement.  3rivers sells that also if my memory serves me correctly.
