Trad bow clubs in San Antonio TX area???
« on: December 16, 2007, 04:07:00 PM »
Well... I'm getting more and more excited about my pending move in 2008 to San Antonio TX.  Anyone know of any Trad Bow clubs in that local area?  Ranges?  Good shops?

All the best,
Glenn

Glenn,
There is a very good trad shop near Canyon Lake which is north of San Antonio off of Highway 46.  Can't remember the name right now but he is in the book.  He will have the info on trad ranges ect.

When I was In San Antone, there was a Trad Club out at Camp Bullis....
They had a Trad shoot every month except during Deer season....
Try the Bow shop they should be able to tell ya where a Trad club is.

Thank you both very much for the replies.  Good to hear that there is one at Camp Bullis.  I was reading on their site that they allow hunting there, and that was where I was planning to go for 2008 season... depending on when I get settled in.

All the best,
Glenn

They shut Bullis down right after 9/11.  No non-military people can get on Bullis.  A friend of mine used to help a dis-abled hunter and they won't let him on anymore.

Austin archery club is about 70 miles north.  They have monthly shoots every third Sun. Jan - Sept.  Also the Texas Trad. tournament in July.
Austin has a good traditional turnout at the monthly shoots and a very good range. Come on up.

Jon,
On Bullis' site they say "Gun Hunting at Camp Bullis is open to DOD ID cardholders only. Bow Hunting is open to DOD ID card holders and their family members. A Hunter education certificate is required to hunt on Camp Bullis."

Since I'm going to be retired military, and will have a DOD retired ID card, I think I'll be allowed to hunt.  They don't differenciate on thier site between active duty and retired, so I'm hoping that I'll be ok.  Guess I should call them to make sure.  That would be a bummer if they didn't let me on to hunt.

McK,
I'll defitely check that out.  I've driven much further in the location I'm in now to attend a shoot, so 70 miles is good for me.  Hope to see you there!

Thanks again for all the replies,
All the best,
Glenn

I have just moved to Washington from San Antonio.

I am a civillian, and I shot a few 3D shoots on Camp Bullis this year.  They have 3D shoots there every month, but they are not trad only. The shoots are done through the outdoor recreation department.

Don't know about a trad shop near Canyon Lake, so I cannot help you there.  Get involved with TBOT (Traditional Bowhunters of Texas).  They have several shoots each year all over the state.

Hmmmm... seems like the site admin over at TBOT has some upgrades to do.  Hardly any of the links work.  Still a good resource though.  Thanks!

Hi Glenn,

I live in Hondo about 40 minutes west of San Antonio But I work smack in the middle of Down Town SA. There is a lot of places for 3d shoots. Camp Bullis is a very nice place and they have a 3d shoot every month starting in Feb. As far as I know it has never closed. It defintaly was not closed this past season. Its a great place. But there are others too.  Call me when you get settled and may be we can meet. Take care. Gilbert
