2016/2018 spine/weight question
« on: December 16, 2007, 07:12:00 PM »
I have been shooting 28" 2016's with 155 grain BH's on them.  They shoot great.  I am wanting to go to a 2018 at the same length to gain some extra weight.  What I would like to know is how heavy would I need to be up front to have the spine of the 2018 be like the 2016 is now?  Figured I would ask and save some time trying different setups.  Thanks for your reply.

2016 spine #61, 2018 spine #67. Probably 190-200 gr.

I'm going through the same thing Rob. I am shooting 55#@28" w/ 2018s at 29" w/ 150gr tips. They are shooting perfect bullet holes through paper at 5 and 15yds. But I want to add 50gr up front. I'm thinking of going to 2020s..? What is your bow weight and arrow length with the 2016s?

At my 27.5" draw, my bow is pulling 56 lb.  Arrows are cut to 28".  My arrows weigh 510 grains on my scale but I thought I might go a bit heavier.   I have a couple 2018's layin around so I may put on some 175 heads and go from there.

Snag,

You might try weighting them with poly rope.  I did this to my 2018 and I got the arrow weight up to 600gr with a 145 gr. head.  It is a cheap way to weight the arrows.  I cut a section of the rope, pushed it up into the shaft, then melted the end so it stuck to the insert.  You can cut the rope the length you want to add as many grains as needed.  It will add no spine to your arrows.
