Cheetah Age?
« on: February 25, 2015, 03:46:00 PM »
I acquired this American Archery Cheetah last summer and just completed a refinish job.  Can someone tell me the age of this bow?

CHB
64"
43#
28"
7B608

Thanks!

Nice one you got there.

If I were betting on a specific year, I think it would be a 1957.  Years ago I had one of those American Archery bows just like yours but a bit heavier.

Looks like a 57 or 58 to me. What kind of glass does it have? I think 57 was the last year for woven glass with them.

The light green glass on the belly looks smooth but the black glass has a little different look than glass on newer bows.  It definitely is not distinctively woven like on one of my older Root bows.  If it's woven, it's a very finely woven glass.

I like the lines on that bow.  Nice job on the restoration.  Do you have any before pictures?  I am curious about stress lines and how well their glass held up in comparison to other brands.

I suspect that most of the glass fiber and resins were produced by just one or two manufacturing companies.

Sorry, I don't think I took any "before" pics.  There are no stress cracks in this bow.  It's in really good shape and draws very smoothly.  The leather grip and back plate are original.  I taped off the leather grip but did remove the leather back plate to refinish the site window.  Someone knew what they were doing when they built this bow.
