Questions about "Archery Review."
« on: March 21, 2015, 09:36:00 PM »
The "Index to VOLUMES I - II - III" is dated July, 1935.

"Bulletin No. 1[ two Klopsteg articles] is dated July, 1935.

Were there later Indexes published?  If so, what Month and year.

Were there other Bulletins published?  If so, what Month and year.

Was there a "regular" issue published every month from August 1931- January - 1937?

My collection is 2/3rds complete and I don't have sufficient issues to answer these questions.

The lack of advertising in the July, 1935 Bulletin and July, 1935 Index suggests there may be a July, 1935 regular issue as well.  So, were the Bulletins and Indexes supplemental or published in lieu of the regular, monthly issue?

Confused yet?

Cliff,

In my complete set of Archery Review, I had bound...

"Index to Archery Review; Volumes 4, 5, 6; August 1934 to January 1937; by C.N. Hickman" much different text than the Index to Vols 1, 2, 3.

Yes, there is a regular issue for July 1935 that has a great deal of advertising.

Yes, there was a regular issue published every month from August 1931 to January 1937.

Bulletin #1 July 1935 is the only Bulletin that I have ever found. Lake & Wright list it followed by the note (no more issued), so it is likely safe to conclude July 1935 is the only one.

Good luck with your search for missing issues. You should post the issues you are missing as someone might have some of those issues to help you complete your set...

In looking through my "Archery Review", just remembered that when I had them bound into a book about 35 years ago, in one issue there was part of one page cut out.

Just found the page...

Nov 1936 page 3, top half of right column is missing.

The area has a partial boarder remaining, so likely a photograph or advertisement was removed. Always wondered what was missing but never remembered to search for that page. Now that it has come up, it's a good time to start looking.

Perhaps someone has an intact page 3, Nov 1936 and can tell me what is missing...

It is an Earl Ullrich ad.  I'll scan it and send it if you want, just pm me the email address.

The ad contains a list of archers who placed at various tournaments using Ullrich bows.

One is Mardee Robinson who beat Howard Hill in a Pope and Young round at the 1936 NAA Nationals held in Michigan.  Hill had beaten Robinson in a novelty Archery Golf Event a few days earlier.  Robinson place third in the 1936 NAA Men's Championship after placing 7th the previous year.
