New, "Old" Bow - (Info please)

I had a chance to pick up a rather neat old take-down, left and/or right bow last weekend and did. It is in rather good shape for the apparent age and shoots OK but not being a collector as such, I'd like any info (or guesses) others may be able to give me on it. I have taken a number of pictures which i hope may help. The logo is virtually unreadable, but it looks like it ends in son. I just don't recall any manufacturers ending in "son", or remember hearing of any. Of course some days I have trouble recalling my own name. Any way, here are the pictures (in four posts). There was a maker of bows, arrows, equipment, etc. from Arkansas that began making archery stuff since the 1920's.  I think his first name was BEN and his last name began with a "P".  

His last name escapes me right now, but do believe it ended in "son."    :D

Of course - Ben Pearson - I can't believe I forgot that, as many as I bought and sold back when I worked part time in a pro shop. I guess the fact that it was a take-down, and I'd not run across one that old before, threw my thought process off. Thank you for the memory jog, Lon.

Yup, Pearson 956 circa 1957-58. Great old longbows, been trying to get my hands on one for years. Made the same bow in recurve model also.

Thanks, guys. I must admit it shoots well but doesn't seem to be too consistent right now. Both Myself and a friend that I taught how to shoot Trad, and has become quite a good shooter, found this to be the case. Can't really see any reason for it (we only shot it one session but we ran a number of different arrow types through it). For both of us, one or two shots it would be right on, then one or two off - though all on the target. The limbs seem straight, the take-down socket is nice and firm/solid. It may just be we haven't found the "right" arrows for it's taste. I have shot many Ben Pearsons, (getting them ready to sell after purchase) and always found them to be basically good bows/shooters. I do need to put a nock on the string (and some silencers)- that may help. I'll try more/different arrows also. It is possible that the wear (showing on the meager "shelf") is making it a little sloppy. That could be corrected but hate to change it much until I find out more about it. It has very little hand shock, and all and all is a very nice bow, especially for a 58 year old, 43# (going by mahantango's information). Just for info, the string appears to be new. We have some good weather days coming up starting tomorrow - I'll post if the nock point etc. changes anything.

This morning (before our usual jaunt to the flea market) I put a double set of string nocks (I prefer them) on the string of the BP bow, I also put some mink silencers on it, and picked out some light weight arrows that I made a few years back. They have nocks that fit the string better, are made from plain old dowels, and are pretty darned good arrows (if I do say so myself - LOL). This evening my friend and I went out to shoot and took the take down and arrows out with us as well. Apparently, I made some good guess-ti-mates on the nock points, and the arrows. Also the silencers hushed it down nicely. We both found the bows consistency and shootability much improved, after making sure we canted the bow a-plenty. The shelf(s) and pad(s) could still use some work of some kind but I don't care to make any modifications until I decide what I will/need to do with the bow.

Sorry, I thought they looked large to me but I was under the impression PhotoBucket was still automatically downsizeing them to our requirements here. I' ll see what I can do about it. Thank you, Tom

I am so truly sorry, Tom (and all). I thought they looked large to me but it's been so long since i posted , and i was under the impression that PhotoBucket was still automatically resizing all uploads to the proper size for TradGang use, so I didn't think further about it.

I have now deleted all the old pictures off PhotoBucket, resized my originals (as i used to have to do) and uploaded those to the same files on PB. It looks like they have automatically reposted the new, resized uploads to this thread (to me, except i don't know where those broadheads came from - LOL). Can someone tell me if they appear to be the right size now or am i going to have to edit all the pics out and re-insert the new uploads here. I can't remember how I used to tell if pics were the right size or not. Lord, getting old is not for the weak I guess       :D

It went crazy and posted old pics from previous "shooting" posts, so I've deleted all the pics here and will try editing in the new uploads (to PB) of the old bow - for continuity. More fun than real people -

I think I finally got it straightened out. Looks like my problem was that i took the pics with 2 different cameras and wasn't sure which set showed the best - somehow Photobucket kept uploading doubles from each of those files (and there still are extra doubles on PB - LOL). Sorry for all the confusion, and hope all is OK now.

I tried to do a little research on this resizing thing, and when I saw the post by Rob Di Stefino about it, I finally remembered that a couple of years back (or more)Trad Gang started doing the automatic resizing it's self. I recall it was a big boon and a great service. So, I don't know what happened on my original post but I guess it is OK now anyway - LOL.
