Rubber paint on Bear Magnesium takedowns
« on: January 28, 2016, 03:45:00 PM »
Has anyone had luck in reproducing the rubber type paint on the Bear magnesium handled take downs? I think it started in 73 when they were introduced and ended about 3 years later going with a more conventional paint finish. The rubber type paint tended to absorb moisture or just deteriorate after time. Either way, it didn't last long.

I have 3 I would like to redo. 2 Victor Vikings and a B handle. I think it was Astro Blue my Vikings came in (I dont have my catalogs handy to check.)

Anyone?

Tim

I have a B riser that someone put a rubberized finish on and lapped over on the grip. I thought it must have been an undercoating spray on material. I really like it, adds a good texture and good surface to the grip. It has held up well.

Thanks Ks, I could see how that may be an interesting finish, should be durable!

I was referring to the original finish Bear put on their magnesium risers and hopefully someone out there has had success in reproducing it. New it was a beautiful finish.

Bumping this thread since I am still interested in restoring my Victor Vikings to their Astro blue flocked/rubber factory style finish.

Have you checked with Rich Lopez? I thought he talked about reflocking on his site.
