needing a little help....1976?
« on: September 06, 2017, 06:00:00 PM »
what are the proper identifications for a 1976 grizzly or kodiak mag?  KT or KU serial? wood and stripe colors? this is my birth  year, wanting to make sure I can identify correctly.

KMag will be green wood, green glass and blue & green overlays. The Grizzly is going to be much tougher to pin down as from 73 until the move there wasn't much in it other than sometime in 76 you would see glass colors other than brown. Hopefully someone else may know of something on the Grizzly to help in getting it a little closer?

thank you, been searching and don't see alot of blue and green on the front.  should the stripe in riser be blue also?. (tons of white)  would supermag be the same color?

Yeah I see the 76 KMags every once in a long while, you are going to have to be patient, they don't show up very often; oh, yep blue stripe. The SuperMag's were black. The 75 & 76 had the blue stripe. I have one but it is either a 73 or 74 as it has a red stripe. Don't know how to tell the difference between the 75 & 76 on them. Hopefully someone can come along and help with that.

My 76 Super Mag has blue overlays on the handle and limb tips. Blue stripe as well.

I like the green and blue futurewood overlays, blends right in with the riser.

Identifier prefix for the Grizzly should be KR and the Kodiak Magnum should be KU in 1976. The S/N changed to a KM prefix in '77 for the Magnum, so you could find late '76 Magnums with a KM serial number. I can't find anything that would help in identifying a 1976 Grizzly from a '73 thru '78. Maybe someone knows something about the serial number sequence, if there was a sequence.

I see we are pretty good on the KU KMag ,blue and green overlay ,green tips ,blue stripe. This overlay sometime fades to a wood color, never white.
The Grizzly will be a KR, catalog said glass bark brown,it looks like black in the photo.A very thin light brown stripe .In the photo it shows three, brown and brown, brown and black, black and green. The photo of the tip is very small, hard to see but it looks like green tips.Good Luck.

I am only looking at bear catalog photos '73,'74,'75,'76,'77 and '78.But the first three years are same photo  same serial number with light brown or gold ink.In 1976 new photo white ink new serial number, then 1977 KR becomes GR with white ink.So maybe 1976 is last of the KR only white ink KR ,this is only from Bear catalog photos and they can be misleading, this my best guess.
