Help me crack the Morrison code?
« on: December 17, 2007, 10:34:00 PM »
Morrison is on my short list of must have bows, but I'm totally confused on what models are what. What limbs go with what.
As best I can tell he has two types of recurves
(Cheyenne and Shawnee)- two type of longbows (Dakota and Cougar) and the new ILF stuff.
I'm looking at his riser chart and it references the Shawnee riser combos and then generically references "takedown" riser combos- is that Cheyenne.
The website also mentions an Arapaho model???
Are there takedown longbows??
One piece recurves??
All you Morrison fans, I need you help.

The Cheyenne is the redesigned Take Down recurve.  The riser will only accept the Cheyenne recurve limbs.

The two one-piece bows he still does are the Dakota and Cougar.  These are both longbows.

The Shawnee is a three piece take down, but will accept Arapaho recurve limbs (based on the one-piece recurve he used to build, but no longer does), and two kinds of longbow limbs (Cougar and Dakota).

The ILF riser will accept Win & Win limbs, as well as Morrison Cheyenne limbs that have been converted to fit the ILF system.

Bob would give you the best info as far as the subleties of each style, etc.  I've shot pretty much all of them, and they are really are some of the best bows made.

Burnsie,
Cheyenne is only a recurve.  I shouldn't say "only" but that's all that is available.  The Shawnee has 3 different types of limbs available.  Shawnee has Dakota or Cougar or recurve.  I believe that the Dakota and Cougar are made on the same form w/ different tapers.  They are both "longbow" limbs.  More like "hybrid" or "longcurve" limbs....but longbow limbs for practical purposes.

To make things worse, there is the "Morrison Takedown" but looking at his website, I think the Cheyenne has replaced the "takedown".

To be most perfectly honest, I'd suggest you pick up the phone and call Bob.  He'll clear up any questions for you.  He has no expectation that you'll order anything.  He not only sells a great bow, but he lets his service sell the bow.  He'll talk as long as you want, until you're done asking questions, then he'll go back to what he was doing.  For those that haven't shot his bows or know them already, that's all that he, or any bowyer can offer and he'll offer his time and expertise.

Don't be intimidated by what you see / read.  Call him and let "the boss" straighten it out for you.

Hope this helps.

I'm waiting to get the last money to get my ILF. A Morrison ILF is the most amazing recurve I have shot in 44 years behind the bow. Mine will be an ugly duckling bow to some as it is a totally phenolic riser without accent stripe with double pinecone checkered grip. Black riser, black limbs made for inside a Double Bull blind and named "M'Bowgo." I can hardly wait.
