Prayer request for my Dad, bypass surgery (update)
« on: September 06, 2006, 06:39:00 AM »
I'm headed to the hospital this morning.  My Dad is having a quad (maybe 5) bypass after two weeks and two days in the hospital.  Please say a prayer for him and his "medical team".

Thanks,
Anthony

Bit late in the day, but prayers that the "TEAM" know God and that the Lord might guide their skilled hands through the procedure adn be with your Dad through the recovery that follows.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

Dad came through surgery fine. We were all there (Mom, my sister, my younger brother, and my older brother in spirit) when they took him down for surgery. He was glad to see us all and enjoyed the visit even if it was a bit early.

They started the surgery at about 8:15 and gave us an update about 10:30 that they had started the actual bypass. The next update was at 12:30 from our cousin, an MD in radiology and a great person to have to explain everything in layman’s terms. He said that they still had him on the bypass machine but that the bypasses were complete and they were getting ready to disconnect and close him up. Just as we were starting to get anxious, about 2:00, the surgeon came out to let us know how everything went. They only had to do 4 bypasses and no other repairs, there was talk of maybe a valve repair and a procedure to tighten the heart muscle but neither were deemed necessary once they saw how things were. The only comment he made of concern was “There was some junk that broke loose in the aorta, and I hope it doesn’t cause a problem.” The translation is there was some plaque that broke loose that could possibly cause a stroke if it makes it to his brain, luckily Mom didn’t pick up on that. It would be another half hour before we could see him.

When we first saw him he was completely out of it, eyes rolled back, shivering, and pale. We were informed quickly that it was all normal and he was doing just fine. The visit two hours later found him much improved in appearance, he was able to tell we were there and even tried to talk, which we told him quickly not to as he still had the ventilator tube down his throat. The nurse said that he was responding well to stimulation and that he had full movement, and that there were no indications of a stroke.

He’ll be in CVICU probably until Thursday afternoon, and then several more days in intermediate care. He is 76 and didn’t think he’d see his 77th birthday but things are looking up now. He’ll have a rough few days/weeks ahead while recovering. I know his two grandsons will be excited when “Boppy” comes to see them play baseball this fall.

Please continue to pray for his full quick recovery.

Thanks again,
Anthony

Prayers continue. That recovery is no picnic...just try to encourage him to do the PT so that he doesn't end up hunched over like my Dad did... still walks that way cause he didn't like the pain of that sternum repair after they cracked that to go in.

Sounds like much thanksgiving to this point is due our Lord and Savior.

Thank You Jesus for bringing Poppy this far!  :)   We submit to "your Will" for the rest of Anthony's dad's recovery and ask your Mercy and Healing be upon him and strength for his family.

Glad to hear that your Dad's operation went fine and that he is recovering!!!!! My Dad had a 4 artery bypass almost 15 years ago. Most people recover fine and find renewed energy and a new outlook on "life". Prayers sent for a complete recovery and a healthy, full "new" life.

BTW, Never let a day go by without telling your Dad that you love him.
