There's a LIGHTHOUSE on a hillside.....amen
« on: December 31, 2006, 09:27:00 PM »
  I am not one to share too much about myself, I guess i was always taught, growing up in our seperated home, that what i have to say never meant too much and that I should just keep my mouth shut, Dad always said "you got 2 ears and 1 mouth that was Gods way of tellin ya to listen twice as much as ya talk" as i grow in years I think that was dads way of gettin me quiet.I am here to talk today about that still soft voice callin me onward.I have bi-polar(hence my log-in name)that is manic-depressed, about 2003 I got a call on my life from our great LIGHTHOUSE in the sky. I have been appointed childrens pastor at our church, and love it,feel unworthy, feel like God could have picked a better guy than me,I am working toward my Ordination, should be in 9-07 I allow satan to keep me at hand ,what I am asking for tonight may seem trivial to most but I feel the call upon my life is more serious than any other undertaking in my life,Ihave takin some courses, I am taking a course of study thru the U.M.E.A.(United Missionary Evangelical Assoc.)I need prayer for the upcoming year to be steadfast in my pursuit of a Godly lifestyle,a unsatisfiable hunger for the truth, a conviction upon my heart so heavy I can't stand it without my lord every waking hour,i want to be able to find a medication that holds my bi-polar tendances at bay all the while not having me to live like a zombie where as I am numb to feelings (can't cry, laugh, etc.) going thru life with no emotions. I did answer the Holy Spirit's tug on my arm today and went the Altar,Cried like a little baby, shook like a jack hammer,I was layed hands on by 3-4 inc the pastor,I was awarded victory if in nothing else,my obedience.I've said too much. please pray God Bless Happy New year.Bi-Polar,Brad

Praying that Jesus is so close to you that you feel His breath on your neck and His arms holding you up.
But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

Dear Brother,
First of all I would not attach my name to the name bi-polar, for out of the mouth you speak death and life.  So as long as you keep on insisting you are bi-polar so you shall be.  Abraham was a man of faith because he called what was not so and it became SO. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, believe you are free and you shall be free. Yes you will have a constant battle and that is why we are to take each thought captive!  But we have been set free of the curse of the law, by his stripes and his blood we have been called into His preist hood, we are children of the King of Kings where NO weapon formed against us shall prospher!  Take your stand you are free!  I am not saying you are not tempted and the signs and symptoms are not real, but what I am saying is you don't have to claim them or accept them, fight back with all your worth, Lay them at the cross my friend for His yoke is light! I will leave you with one of my favorite verses, Mark 11:23 & 24!

Be blessed Brad!

Brad......Amen to what AA is saying. You have the ability to speak, BLESSINGS or CURSES. Bro choose LIFE or DEATH.
Life is full of STEPPING STONES or Stumbling Blocks.........which ever we choose.
Focus on WHO is really in charge, and the reason for the CROSS.......Prov. 3:5&6

Wow... Brad, you've gotten good witness from AA and IB.  Let me try another tact:

I would agree to shrugging off the mantle of BP as your identity.  God can heal all of us. Sometimes, His choice is to say "no." But I felt AA was saying that while the disease is real, and your faith can be strong, the outcome is not the same as what you tell your mind. Feed your mind good things and if the Lord sees fit to allow you to continue to struggle with the disease, don't take that as an admonishment.BP indeed is a bio-chemical imbalance and imperfection in the chemistry of the brain, but if He allows you to continue with that malise, then God will use that to help you relate and communicate to others.

Diabetics are always diabetic. Alcoholics are always alcoholics.  Those are physical limitations as are yours.  They manifest in physical attributes. What I read in both sets of advice were "tell yourself positive things" and trust that the Lord will give you the strength to balance what the body's chemistry doesn't allow...and keep praying for the disease to be lifted, willing to accept whatever cross it is  you will bear.

They'll correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that is what my heart read into their words.

AS for the feelings of inadequacy, you make me smile.  That is a struggle more of us share than most will admit. I keep being reminded that God does NOT call the qualified, he equips those He calls!

With your background and struggles, being a minister to youth...could be the difference between more posts here like the 2 we had over the holidays --of youngsters taking their lives.

There is a difference between confessing to another hurting soul struggling with mental health issues that you have your own and living as though that is all that you are... bi polar.  You are already demonstrating such feverant love for your fellow man... I'd also encourage you to find another name... Name yourself the future you see Him calling you to!

I often wonder if we can truly relate to others until we ourselves have faced the "dark side" and know the agony of desolation emotionally? I don't know. What I do know from here on this forum and throughout my life is that those who reach out with the greatest love, when you get to know them, are often those who have already (or continue to) struggle(d) with tremendous doubt and suffering.

Christ did for us, why not us for Him?

Prayers for your continued passion to seek the Lord's will in your life. Prayers for you to find renewed strength and a surge of uplifting joy from the love shown here. Prayers for perseverance in those times when things appear dark and cold trusting in the Lord and crying out to your Lord for His redeeming Mercy and Grace.

You have obviously been called...and HE will equip you.

Letting God drive the bus doesn't mean a free ride... I tell myself daily it also means we need to keep a LOT of windows cleaned, and keep those many tires pumped full of air... He gives us plenty to do while we allow him to drive the bus!  :)

Shalom, my friend!

Brother Brad,
After reading my post it did sound strong but thanks to my Brother Doc he directed my intent to the right path.

The reason you might have felt the emotion behind my statement is that several years ago I was suffering with something called panic attacks. I don't wish these on any body I can't even began to explain the hoplesness I felt.  Somedays I could not even leave my house because of the fear.  For one year doctors gave me all kinds of drugs to try and control it, but some of the drug side affects where worse then the attacks themseleves.

To make a long story short, the Lord led me to a natural path (a doc who heals through natural foods and stuff) at the same time another person told about a Christian organization (Freedom in Christ) that dealt with the battle of the mind.

Praise God, after 1 year of fighting I have been completely delivered.  Yes every once in awhile the enemy trys to put an attack on me, but Glory to God I have learned he is a defeated foe and know I know how to keep him that way.

So what I am trying to say is to keep fighting back with every thing you have, stand as strong as you can and when you can't stand any longer, let me know and I will stand in the gap for you until you can stand again!

Jeff,

I won't let you give me the credit...Lord just set it in my mind what you were trying to say cause as I read Brad's opening post..it was what God was formin in my own heart to share...and then you nailed it.

Thanks for sharing with us that one who touches so many at such a deep, spiritual level as do you, has fought the good fight.

I've read it here and heard it from pulpits for years...the closer we get to walking with Christ, the more heat the devil pours on us to knock us off the path!

I can't wait to see what unfolds in Brad's life cause I sense there are going to be more tough times, but there is going to be Big Time glory goin on working with those kids!

Prayers continue for you, Brad! Thanks, Jeff, for helping me know your heart!

I have prayed and the mightiest of the mighty will deliver you. Keep the faith. You are tested sorely because satan fears what you may accomplish through your life and the lives of the youth you're touching.

Brad-
I'm praying the Lord will lift this burden from you and believing he gonna help you with this calling you've accepted.

I'm also believing that one day, someone with this same problem is gonna come to you for help, and you're gonna have a great testimony to tell.............. and be able to say: The Lord delivered me, and the Lord can deliver you!

Lord I believe, and stand in the gap for this Brother, Amen.
Love you, and Praying for You Brad!

I hate to admit it guys, but I was a tad taken back with the strength of your opinion.I am glad that I have guys I can count on to let me know or see perhaps something I was blinded to.I,after good concious thought agree with you all that just because bi-polar is IN me it don't have to be ME,after all I am called of the almighty to do His will, and that ,my friends,is excactly what I am putting my FULL focus on,praise His mighty name.I have said it b4 if He brings you to it He will bring you thru it,as for now I am going to see if I can figure out how to get rid of that LIMITING name,Iwill let you know what it is if I can change it,as always god bless, and thanx to all of you,I understand where your coming from a lot better now.  BRAD

Brad,

Thank the Lord you see where we were coming from and the force you felt was the Holy Spirit and not something negative. It's just our suggestion to you, my brother. Not an edict. We love you being here regardless!  :)

I think it's neat that you're willing to testify to that challenge you bear, but as you've reasoned, it is NOT who or what you are... It is merely a malise that you deal with.

As for changing your moniker, I thought it was easy and went to my own "edit" profile, but am now not so sure...

Email Rob or Terry and they'll guide you through it! Good people both of them!

Now there's a handle, Brad that you can grow into and use over and over and over and it will still be true... regardless of how many stumbling blocks come in your path!

I like it!  :)

Point well made, brother.  And we're called to continue to glorify His name and give thanks even for our challenges... It was pointed out to me that is why it's called a "praise sacrifice". If it doesn't cost US something, and we only praise Him for the good times, there is not much point to it all, huh?

"Lord, we praise you amidst our fears, challenges and frustrations, knowing that our time on earth is but a mere flash in the pan.  We ask that you strengthen us in that knowlege and help us to become more fixed on YOUR WILL in our lives and less on our own needs and issues.

We cannot do that on our own. By nature we are weak and failable. Only through you and the Holy Spirit ever present in us, around us and with us can be grow to become as you would have us be.

Help us embrace our own weakness and rely totally on you, Lord. Every day and in every way! Amen"
