Suicide Bomber Kills Provincial Police Chief at Blast Site in Mosul; 1 US Soldier Wounded

Here's his letter home to us dated 01/24 10:31AM !

Everybody,

To start out with I want to assure you that I will live and fully recover from my injuries.  Last night there was a very large explosion in Mosel which killed 9 people and injured over a hundred.   This morning we went with the Iraqi Army General that I we advise to the site of the explosion.  When we got there, there were close to thousand people and they were kind of mad and yelling at all the Iraqi Army guys.  As we started to leave small arms fire broke out and there were bullets flying everywhere. Some just inches from me.  In all the confusion I was separated from my men and started to fight my way back to my trucks.  I was almost there running from place to place getting shot at the whole time.  I stopped about 15 meters from my trucks to return fire when all of a sudden I heard a very loud explosion and then I was engulfed in a huge fireball.  I don't remember too much else but my guys told me that they saw me staggering out of the smoke covered in blood and pieces of meat and intestines hanging off my equipment.    It seems that an insurgent with an explosive suicide vest detonated himself about 15 feet from where I was standing.  All the blood and body parts that I was covered in was from him.  It was kind of funny when the Medic was checking me out he was pulling bit of meat and intestines off me and each time he said "Not Yours" and then tossed it aside.

I got my bell rung very well.  I received thermal burns to the left side of my face and I am having a hard time hearing anything out of my left ear.  I have a real bad headache and I will have to get a hair cut in order to balance out  my hairdo.  My left side is bruised up pretty good. But the good thing is I will recover and I am still alive.

Please forgive me but I am going to cut this short as I am going to lay down for a bit and get some rest.

Take Care & Love

Thank God for his protection. Prayers for a good recovery and emotional healing as well. Prayers for salvation of the idiots doing the bombing cause there's no hope for them otherwise. They'll just keep doing it.

Prayers for your brother in law and his family at home.  May God bring him home to his family alive and well.  May God guard his heart and spirit.

Prayers for the poor Iraqi's that lost loved ones in this bomb blast.  And by God's grace and by the Lord's instruction prayers for our enemies.

Gordy,
Your brother'n'law sounds like one tough guy. I am glad God was watching over him and got him thru it. I don't understand this "war"? anymore, but I know God has a plan for it all.

Wow...tears well up reading how matter of fact someone can be of a near death experience.

I truly am in awe of your BIL and will keep him, as I do all folks in service and in harm's way, in prayer.

Hopefully, his body will return to full health and be as upbeat as his note appears.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers...

Thanks guys.
BIL is doing well. They say he shouldn't have permanent scarring from the burns.
Still no word on the hearing in his left ear. Give it some time I guess.

Prayers being sent!

I know how you feel as my little brother is over there now and a few days ago 1 soldier was killed in his platoon when they were entering a house and a guy was inside with a bomb attached to him. Then day before yesterday they awoke to find thier barracks was on fire. Some arson set it on fire and all three barracks burned and he lost all his stuff.

I don't know what to say. What do you say to someone who risks +/or gives their life for yours. One day we'll ask Jesus. Thank you for my freedom.
God bless our troops with your grace and protection to return home safe. PLease let them know we appreciate their invaluable contribution. Amen.
