Pray for me to resist the flesh
« on: July 15, 2008, 11:18:00 PM »
Fellow tradgangers I need your prayers, I have really been fighting my flesh lately. I am very devoted to my Lord Jesus Christ, But man I have really been struggling with walking closely with him.I know that the Devil just wants to sift me as wheat. There seems to be a battle in my mind. Please pray for spritual, mental, physical strength.

Kenny prayers will be sent but know your not alone. I'd like your prayers for me. It seems the more you seek to do God's will the harder the flesh fights. But God says that Jesus will save us from this body of death so I'm praying that He does that for all of us.

Kenny,
You know that the first thing that I wanted to do when I read your post was write a few verses and sign off. However, as BenBow indicated, it seems that we all are in a constant battle. I think another way of lookiing at it is that when we seek to be holy (as we are commanded to do) we will recognize the things in our lives that are not pleasing to Him. I read somewhere that asked the question; " Does a fish know that it is wet?"  And of course the answer is no, unless the fish is caught and laying on the bank. Then it is overwhelmingly aware of its "wetness" or the lack thereof. When we get a glance at the Holiness of God we are accutely aware of our "wetness" and the flesh screams at our soul to get it back into it's comfort zone. But God has a great plan for you. He wants to comform you to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29) and that will mean that we will have to recognize the flesh for what it is and put it in its proper place ( the cross). But it also means that He has not left you as an orphan and is there to assist and help. It is interesting that even Jesus "learned obedience through the things that He suffered" (Heb.5:8) and knows how to assist us in time of need ( Heb 4: 14-16). Didn't mean to preach but needed to remind myself of these truths as well. Kenny, you are not alone in this battle. May we all learn to encourage one another as we seek to "enter into His rest" and continue to grow into the men and women of God that He desires us to be.
Your Brother in Christ, John

All who are saved have this battle. We all struggle in this body to do Gods will. The world has alot of things that appeal to the flesh. Focus on Christ and never stop praying and asking for forgiveness.<><

Prayers with you, Kenny.

I will add that it's nice to see our best prayer warriors also admitting to what is universal. It's easy to get to the point where we think we're the only one losing the battle of will over sins of the flesh.  The Liar wants it that way. He wants us to feel alone and isolated. He wants us to be down on ourselves. We cannot long exist constantly exhorting ourselves for being "wet" as Possum put it so uniquely. It tears us down.

Christ wants us to feel His love and adoring nature and then radiate that to others. No small task for us mere mortals...but if it was easy, Christ wouldn't have had to die for us, would he?

As a minister once put it that sticks with me, "...when everything starts to go wrong...and you lose your way, thinking that God's abandoned you and you've lost touch with Him, realize that it may just be the Devil sees how you're growing closer to Christ and walking closer with Him, so the Liar has to ramp up his efforts to knock you down and win you back into darkness through his deceit. So when things are dark, rejoice and offer a praise sacrifice for it means you've gotten the devil's attention with your efforts to become more like Christ!"

As so many of us, I'm right there with you for many reasons and I join in your prayers for guidance, perseverance, strength and resolve to stay the course.

Fellow Traggangers, Thanks for the awesome words of encouragement. 2 Corinthians 4:8 says "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed." The word never said following Christ would be easy. Thank you and God Bless You for lifting me up in time of need. Kenny

Thanks, Kenny for having the courage to confess here among us and strengthen us by helping us see we're all in this together...daily.

for many of us, Dying to self is not a one-time thing! I have to do it daily and sometimes throughout EACH day over and over...

Keep the Son in your eyes!
