Prayers for grace and wisdom
« on: September 28, 2009, 01:21:00 AM »
I'd like to ask that you all be remembering me and a young lady in your prayers.  We dated for 9 months and knew all along that we had very different churches.  The time came when we started talking about those differences and things fell apart rather quickly.   Neither of us are mad at the other.  We both hate the separation. Neither of us are open to the idea of adopting the other's view and yet we both feel that a "house divided..." is no good.

The issue at hand is how one should interpret the Bible.(Which, directly or indirectly, touches EVERY aspect of a believer's life.  What makes this such a hard issue is that it also directly touches the way we worship and commune with congregations that might not believe EXACTLY what we believe and which congregation we would attend as a married couple.)

I've looked into the prooftexts and "academia" associated with her church's view and it does not add up to me.  I really wish it did. Further, I don't feel scripture allows me to adopt a view that alters our relationship with the Holy Spirit the way I feel her church's view does.  I should note that I believe she and the vast majority of people with her view are sincere christians, but have been "duped" into a constraining view of the Bible.

She has grown up her entire life without any of these issues being challenged, and knows her Mother, Uncle/Pastor, and sister-in-law have all adopted the views she has even though they grew up with different ones.  So even questioning her views is a scary and uncomfortable proposition for her because it's been triple-reinforced that they're right...everyone else just needs to see the light.

She's taking the break up very hard.  Honestly, I am too on most days.  Like I said, neither of us like it and we aren't mad or bitter towards the other.  Neither of us are budging on our stances either though. I feel like I've given her view an honest look, and feel like she's   unable to give mine an honest look. (We even went and talked with her uncle/pastor about the "issue")

I have no clue wear to go from here.  So, please pray for grace and wisdom with the current situation AND that there would be peace on both our parts should we not get anywhere.

I left the issue/view vague on purpose, as I'm sure it's a view that would divide us here on tradgang, with supporters on both sides.

I will pray for you wisdom, both of you. There needs to be a comonality to Bible interpretation in the home that brings a closeness and unity. I am having kind of the same issues, not within my family, but within my church family, there are some styles of worshiop being presented that make me very uncomfortable, even though on some of the aspects they are very biblical, I feel convicted about them so it is hard to discern what is biblical and what is just "the way we have always done it", I will be in prayer for you both as I said, let the Bible speak, and where it doesn't we shouldn't either, I hope this helps, I know it is not much of an answer, but maybe at least you wont feel as if you are alone in this struggle.THank you, writing this response to your request has given mea lighter look at my own struggle.
Lord Bless,
Brad

Praying
But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

While prayers for your delemma are a given, let me take a moment to applaud your strength and wisdom to see that where you are with this woman is not a foundation on which to build a life or family. Congratulations.

Christ kept it simple when asked the greatest commandments. Somehow, churches and denominational infighting sometimes seems to make it a lot more complicated.

Keep the Son in your eyes!
The words "Child" and "terminal illness" should never share the same sentence! Those who care-do, others question!
