living or working at camp lejeune nc marines
« on: July 25, 2011, 08:05:00 PM »
I just recently received a letter from the goverment, that those who worked or lived there,a lot of fellow marines, before1987 should register as the water was contaminated and many problems with health issues including birth defects may be related to the water.I have been out over 30 years and just found out.Hope this is a help, let anyone you know who was there to at least check it out. here's a link I found......https://clnr.hqi.usmc.mil/clwater/  joe

That rather stinks. Hope it's not a hoax, but then again, be better if it were!  :(

Swamper, I followed the link and read quite a bit of the articles, etc.  I'll be glad to help you interpret any of the reports or findings, to the extent that I can, if it will help. My background is environmental - Water/wastewater/groundwater, etc.  I worked in a state drinking water regulatory branch for a couple of years in 89-90 and understand water treatment as a certified drinking water & WW plant operator. Am also familiar with industrial, soil & groundwater contaminants and their lab analyses. There were a lot of changes (ie. steep learning curve) in Env regulations in the late 70's & 80's (kind of an awakening after the "Love Canal" incident) PM if needed - will be glad to talk.

Anytime....and I encourage you and others to register your info and time-frames of exposure to the drinking water. They'll have all kinds of questions, so try to be as accurate as possible and get back to them later if you remember more.  Tell them what you know/where you were located/housed, how often you used the water and for what purposes, etc.  It will make their studies more accurate, to help you and others in the future.  As with most of these situations, some people are very sensitive to exposures, while others are not - everyone's different, so don't assume you're bound to get cancer - you may never. So call your old buddies and catch up on old times and tell them to register, for the good of the many.  Hang in there, but don't sweat it yet.
