Tribute arrows
« on: November 08, 2012, 12:34:00 PM »
I will be shooting an arrow heavenward on Mon. the 12th, Dad's birthday. He passed on Nov. 3rd 1998.

I've wanted to do this ever since he passed but hadn't thought of a good way. I originally wanted to shoot it so that it would pass into the Mississinewa Lake but figured the DNR would frown upon it.

I have decided to shoot it so that it will land in what my family have always referred to as "The Bottom". It is the eastern field on the farm that is like a valley between two hills.

It is a good 230 yd flight from where I want to stand to the center of the field and I have been talking with Two Tracks about flight shooting to get close to that kind of flight.

I want anyone that has a suggestion to make this "ceremony" even more meaningful to please let me know.

I will be shooting a tribute arrow for my son, my brother and my mom on their birthdays as they come.

Neat idea. I hope the realization of your long held dream has brought you closure and solace and strengthened your Dad's memory...

B.
I'm sorry for your losses, but know your memories and heritage of your family live on in you.

I like your Mississinwa Lake idea.  Born of water, then of blood.

Took my brother hunting at Mississinewa Lake when they were repairing the dam a few years ago.  He took his first dear (a doe) with a bow. Great memories there.  Beautiful, peaceful ground.

Godspeed.

Lost my dad when I was 2 and still miss him but the pain has mellowed. Prayers for God's comfort.
But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

I also shoot tribute Arrows but Try not to put too much thought on how far or where they will land as long as I feel it is safe.  I will allow the spirit guide the arrow.

Prayers sent for a great launch.
Relax,

You'll live longer!

B. I recently shot a tribute arrow for a close friend of mine who died of cancer.  Some of us guys from church who knew him had a monthly Friday night grill out, followed by a bible study.  I brought my recurve and special arrow and we each shared good memories of our friend.  They weren't archers, but told them of this tradition and my intent, asking each friend to initial the arrow with a Sharpie. I then launched it East (toward the Son) into the darkness of the forest in memory of Phil. There were many tears, but great memories shared and remembered.

May God heal your hurt.
