Another Shoulder Injury
« on: April 04, 2013, 10:06:00 PM »
:banghead:      Make sure you warm up good before you shoot-do some stretches, get it moving some before you take that first shot!

If you are having problems, get it checked out sooner rather than later.

Hope all go's well with your shoulder, BDann. Check out alternative medical options { nutrients } before surgery would be my best advice.

Thanks Knawbone.  I've been hitting the supplements pretty hard, along with ultrasound, laser, adjustments, exercises and massage.  Of course, being a chiropractor makes it easier for me to have access to all that!

So have you had it xrayed or anything yet? Do you know for sure what is injured, i.e. - rotator cuff, muscle, tendon, ligaments?

Man, I sure hope you get it figured out and healed up as quick as possible.

Good luck!

Had the x rays done at the office, and did an MRI right before the Austin shoot.  Being the hard head that I am, I of course decided to shoot anyway!

Nothing major on MRI, small tear in rotator cuff, some old injuries, but nothing surgical.

The shoulder specialist says it's the dreaded adhesive capsulitis, or frozen shoulder. He recommended a joint injection, which I may end up doing.  I've been doing all the stuff I know to do, but it's not getting the job done.  Unfortunately, these things can last for a really long time.

Hopefully I'll be ready to go by the time the Chester shoot rolls around.

I hear a lot of should injurys, is this something I can expect to probably happen to me down the road?  Are your old injuries archery related?

Juan,

The old injuries were more than likely from overhead throwing, I used to pitch back in the day.  It really got going when I was horsing around and threw a stick.  In fact, I was on the Solana hunt when it started- I thought it would be really funny if I bounced a stick off the porta potty while one of the fellas was in there.

Archery can be hard on the shoulders, but if you take good care of them you'll be in good shape.

Man that is too bad.  Stay at the exercises and stretches... as you well know you can get back in the game with very intentional activities.  I just shot my 56@28 D bow and felt it the next day as my right shoulder is a banged up mess (from an old dislocation)... I live in fear of it failing... Yoga has helped me.  Really.

Thanks, and I hope your shoulder heals up!

Prayers for healing.

Some people are pre-disposed to have this stuff...genetic or otherwise.  Best thing to do is to get it treated and then change what you can!
