I need prayer for my work place.
« on: July 07, 2017, 05:50:00 AM »
Well this is something that kept me up most of the night from something I have seen a lot of over the 12 years of turning apartments over where I work.
I have seen and have had problems with my breathing in the past due to working in apartments with "Black Mold".
I addressed a situation and took pictures yesterday and sent to my boss who was some what trying to relax at home after her vacation and I always thought since she is boss she should be noticed when a serious problem comes up while renovating.
Two contractor's and myself talked over the mold problem and I decided to text my boss about the issue of us and tenants breathing the mold spores in. We had heavy masks on but none of us are Certified mold removers.
My boss sent a text back to leave the apt. ASAP so we all gathered our tools and left.
Well I find out later she called her brother in law the contractor who has his MHIC license (Maryland Home Improvement Commission)  owns the business but now has another State job and  is letting his two men run the business under his license to see what he thought sight unseen.
They are Not certified but buying suits today and try to remove what insulation and do a mold clean up themselves.
My boss has been told about issues with mold from us and tenants before and seems to find "The quick" fix to get these apartments turned over no matter how many each month and these were some issues she had to address years before I came along.
It is some what state run with grants we get each year and none profit.
I researched and have noticed it should be cleaned up by Certified techs that have been through a coarse on clean up but she seems to go behind my back and get opinions from her brother in law and not call the State for proper removal.
This isn't the only apartment and she knows it from past jobs we seen and we just cleaned it up and most time I end up at the Dr's with a 3 week cough and ammonia or fluid in my lungs.
I will meet with her today about this and I have been up since 1:00 this morning tossing and turning about how to address her without blowing my top and still have my job.
I thought about calling OSHA to come look under all 93 apartments and see what they think but not sure If I would open up a can of worms if you know what I mean.
I have three girls to raise and even though I have no insurance through them they give me $2500.00 a year to cover over the counter meds,co pays etc. but my insurance is through my wife so we are covered there.
Please pray after addressing my concerns with my boss I come home with still having a job today.
When I am mad about something that isn't right I get in defense mode and let things roll out of my mouth and then feel guilty after. Please pray I keep calm.
 God hear my prayer please.

Prayers up...that is one tough row to hoe...

Once you open Pandora's box, issues won't go back readily...

Lord, Give Keefer the wisdom to make the right decision.

Thanks guys I stayed away from that apartment and my boss has yet to tell me her plans but she called her brother in law and his guys and 11 year old son suited up and went in and ripped out all insulation under the apartment. They said it was bad under there and sprayed bleach on nearly every joist and said it was bad.
The law states a renter is to let tenants know of mold issues and my complaint is she will not and we are to keep it under our hats.
I'm praying the state comes and go under "Every" apartment but I may risk not having a job if I make that call.
Pray God takes control of the situation and keeps my tongue in my mouth.
Can't believe her nephew who I think is 11 was there with his father in a hazmat suit yesterday. I told his father don't have him anywhere near it but he was in the apartment and at the crawl space with his dad.

We can witness.  We can worry.  But we can NOT control other's behavior and whatever choice you make, there are repercussions to the choices here on the blue marble!

Spraying Clorox alone is enough to burn a person's lungs...if inhaled long term.

Don't count on the state doing jack even if you do call... They're not GOV'T for nuttin...  :(    :knothead:

Bad situation. OSHA should be notified, if you have to work there or even be in the appt. it is dangerous to your and others health. I pray it gets worked out but you know as well as I do you cannot stop stupid. I know you do not want to for fear of losing your job, but maybe an anonymous call is in order.

There are "whistle Blower" laws in place precisely for this situation.  It is not only immoral, but also illegal to not divulge this information to potential renters.  I would not go back in there.  My motto since my first child was born is this:  "I don't want anyone else raising my kids or being called Daddy"  That is how I look at things.

Update ...Well I finally got to talk to her (boss) yesterday about the situation and after clearing the air of our texts back and forth we both came to the same agreement about the Mold situation and how to handle it. Little did I know she told me way before I came as Maintenance Man she had problems with that same apartment and as she explained to she had a company talking to her about french drains and sump pumps under the apartment. Exhaust fans were used to get rid of humidity under it which to be honest isn't doing the job. There wasn't much water except a few wet spots in corners and every apartment has a concrete floor.I know there is a vapor bearer under that concrete as well. The crawl spaces are  4 blocks below outside grade.
Now she never mentioned about having certified Techs. do the work but did tell her brother in law "If" he thought it was dangerous not to do anything.
Well he went and pulled insulation and sprayed bleach everywhere .
Yesterday we all worked in it and wore masks and cut and replaced flooring, drywall in bathroom and let the place air out.
We are now talking of using a spray foam two part epoxy to cover all woof, joists under apartment instead of  regular insulation so it still isn't set in stone.
Your prayers and mine kept my mouth sealed with out anger and I thank you all.
I still think she needs to tell the tenant about the situation cause I to read it's the law and her responsibility to do so.
Folks there have seen what's happening and they have asked me and I just say Mold issues and not trying to hide it . Maybe they will ask my boss what's happening and do they have it?
I am tired of keeping these issues under my hat and my boss knows my concern no it just for us but the tenants as well.
We are working in an area where there are a bunch of lady's who watch what we do and my hopes are they see the mold flooring and what we remove and they spread the word.

No crystal ball here, Hoss...so prayers are all I can do...if and I mean IF, we knew what we eat, drink and breath in our world today, trusting in our Govt agencies to protect us, we'd all go insane!

This isn't my Father's World... This is not my resting place, as the hymn goes...

It sounds like you handled it in Christian fashion, and may yet find a way to share the Lawful notice as required with your Boss.  Sounds like she's tried in the past to do better and now is in more dire straights...

God/Good Luck!
