Just doing informal tests on my own, I shot grizzly stik safari's that weighted about 900 grains as well as axis full metal jacket 300 shafts with weight tube that weighed about 660 grains out of the same bow.  The test was done with field points.  The full metal jacket arrows outpenetrated the grizzly stik arrows by about an inch per arrow when shot into my block 4x4 target.  I don't know how this correlates with arrows shot with broadheads into a live animal.  I suspect based on other threads that have been posted on trad gang that the griz stik arrows may be more durable, but the full metal jacket arrows are pretty tough.  It is more difficult to get higher weight shafts with the full metal jacket, but with weight tubes it can be done.  I was only using the 3 grain per inch tubes sold at 3 rivers.  I would attribute the difference in penetration primarily to the fact that the griz stik arrows have a fairly large diameter shaft at the tip.  Griz stik's are probably easier to tune given the tapered shaft.

Herb,

I must agree with you,  for hunting in my humble opinion, there is no better hunting shaft.

Pdk25,  I think your forgetting another thing that prevented deeper penatration in your test.  The finish on the Grizzly Stick gets hot, and becomes tacky, thus creating more friction in that medium.  You don't have that problem on flesh and blood.  You are correct about the arrow being wider at the front being a factor.

It is a fact that tuning has been a very pleasant task with Grizzly Sticks.

I have no thoughts, only convictions that there is no better carbon shaft for the traditional bowhunter than the Grizzlystiks,   :)  I have Alaskans and Sitkas, and I tried every other brand

I tried the Alaskans and could not get them to tune from any of my bows which range from 50# to 65#. Every bow showed a severely weak spine and obviously the heavier bows were worse. The only thing I can figure is my 31.5" draw was a factor that caused this style of shaft to not work well for me. The Arrow Dynamics shaft had very similar performance. I'm currently shooting a Beman MFX Classic 340 with a 100 grain point and the standard 16 grain insert from both of my 50# longbows and at 32 1/4" (full length, uncut) this shaft flies perfect from both of longbows. I have to use the 300 spine Axis for my heavier bows.
One man thinks he can, the other doesn't. Both are right!

Tilzbow,

Suggest that you use the alumium insert as opposed to the brass one.  I think you will be supprised.

Has anyone shot the Safari model?  I just picked up a few and was wondering how they fly.

I got a sample set from Ed last fall of the alaskan & safari.

I got the alaskan to fly well out of my bow with 225 & 300GR upfront. The weighedd in @ 920 with  300GR and were too stiff for my longbow (64# @ 30").

Great arrows though!
 Best of luck!
