Going to SA next year.
« on: November 02, 2009, 12:26:00 PM »
I'm planing a trip to SA next year, with a very experienced PH,
Ziggy Rautenbach, He's been in the game since the early 70's, and hunted most of Southern African countries, his son was a child hood friend of mine, he's retired but said he would, take me on a hunt, when I go back, witch is a real treat as he is no doubt one of Africa's old school greats.
I'm looking for one or two guy's to join me, to help share some of the costs. If any one is interested, in joining the hunt, let me know,
2010, I'll be going home to SA for a 3 month visit from april to june. So if you like me, not rolling in cash, this might be a good opportunity.

Cheers. Craig

Hey Craig,

Are you going home for the Soccer World Cup? You know it's gonna be manic at that time, and prices will be skyhigh to get every last cent out of the tourists! But hey, I wish it was me! Last time I was home was 2007! Enjoy it, and take loads of pics to show off our beautiful homeland!

Yeah, the run-up to the world cup then.... Gonna be a bit expensive if you leave booking the tickets too late! Have fun, I'll be heading home in Feb, too hot to hunt...
Good luck!

Thanks for the feed back guy's.
I clean forgot about the Word Cup. Hell I'm not even interested in that, and wasn't sure when in 2010 it was happening. I might have to change my plans. The last time I was back was 2000 and got involved in a shoot out, defending an old couple, who were being fired upon, by hijackers. I got 2 of them one fatally, one got away but I know I got him too. I also caught a bullet, and ended up in the Boksburg, Benoni hospital, shot through the right lung.
Both I and jack were taken to the same hospital, he was worse off than me. So the hospital staff went about working on him and left me bleeding to death. Howz that for justice. Lucky my dad got wind of it showed up and fought with them to sort me out first the request was denied, so he decided to take me to a Princess hospital in Benoni and they tried to stop him, lol he ended up taking me out at gun point.
I swore I would never go back but my parents are still there and I haven't seen them since 2000. I'm also keen on hunting again. I also really miss SA. I see you guys are in England. Wise move lol.

Craig, wow man!!! That's really hairy stuff mate!   :scared:   Glad you made it out alive, I've lost a good friend who was doing the same thing a while back.... That's Africa though, I thank God that I only drew my weapon once in anger in the 13 years I carried it. Whatever you decide mate, be careful.   :)   Just to make things worse the government has now cleared the police to have a shoot to kill policy... (to be tougher on crime??)
To other folks reading this thread - don't let any of this put you off going to hunt there... Most operations out in Africa will take very good care of their clients... If you do go on your own and don't know the country - speak to someone who does. Africa is beautiful and hunting there is great. I guess what I'm trying to say is use your common sense!   ;)

I agree with Jason, could be real hair raising stuff all over Africa, how ever if you're going through a pro outfit, then you will never get to see what Craig experienced.

Ghee Graig, thats the sort of stuff most people only see in movies!!! Terrible, and really sad! I'm sorry to hear that! You say the UK was a great choice? Why? Nothing will ever beat SA!!!!! Braais, Boerie, Biltong and the BOKS!!!! Good luck though and really enjoy, and hopefully you'll be loads safer this time!

SA was much tamer than I had imagined.  I had a neck pouch and money belt that really were not necessary.  i am sure parts of the cities can be rough but our PH made sure we did not have to negotiate any of that.
