Off to South Africa!!!!!!
« on: June 01, 2011, 08:27:00 AM »
Yes, we're heading back in about a months time. Dates to be confirmed. But I spent the whole of Monday and Yesterday loading the container to ship our lives back home. Been really busy focusing on that lately, and a few half finished bows were loaded into the container yesterday with the rest of my archery stuff. I kept 1 bow and some arrows out that will go into the hold of the plain. Lets hope there will be loads of adventures in the bush to follow over the next few years!!!!!

(We, is my wife, 2 kids and I) My son of 3 is so excited to go back to SA, he really loves the outdoors and animals so much. His favourite toys are his African Animal range that we have bought him.

Keep you posted....

Pete

Oh I forgot to add, I'm going on a hunt in a few months time with my brother-in-law. He shoots with a rifle, but only by walk and stalk to within 30yards. I'll be giving it a go with a bow, so my first ever hunt, and it will be with Trad gear. I shoot an English Long bow of 46#, but I'll be buying a Falco Storm just before we leave.

PZee, where will you be living? There are small but passionate groups of trad archers scattered around the country.

Hey Brian,

At first I'm going to be living in Krugersdorp, but really open to moving around from there. I'm starting a business with my brother-in-law, who lives in Centurion, so we might settle there seeing that the office will be in the flatlet in his back garden. Actually anywhere close enough to my brothers church - Chris Zeelie. I know you guys get together quite often.....

My wife's family live in the Mooi River valley between Graytown and Weenen, so we'll be going down there quite often. Actually what are the regs on hunting on a normal farm? They have a Pecan estate surrounded by sugarcane. They have tons of Bushpigs.....

I read the articles on African Archer every month, and will be looking at joining TASA when I arrive, aren't you the chair of TASA?

I look forward to meeting you soon, hopefully, by the Grace of God we will be there by the end of the month!

Hi Pete
Hunting on normal farms is permitted - just need a licence from the provincial authorities and then a special permit if out of season (has to be a pest problem). Then the farmer needs to give permission. Sounds more involved than it is. Last year we went to hunt Eland on a farm in the Drakensberg. They were jumping THROUGH the game fences & eating the farmer's radishes planted for his dairy cattle. He got special permits from the Parks Board to hunt them. Looking forward to connecting with you :-)

Hey Wayne,

They're the Harty's. They have a Peacan Estate in Muden, around Peter Marsh's places. I love going to the farm, awesome place!! Thanks

dont know the hartys- but sure do know peter marsh- when you go back there mention peter gill- a legend in the area , and a very dear friend of ours- in fact my son is named after him- what an incredible man with a ton of stories.
i sure do like the area too- and do miss it sometimes here, the absolute abundance of the small things- small critters, snakes, insects etc etc.
just dont miss the politics.
but we live in a super cool place now!!
best of luck my friend.
take care
wayne
