What do you think....?
«

As I'm older now and have alot of arthritis, etc. I cannot pull much weight. I shoot 42# (at 26 1/2 ) and I know it's plenty. (small game and deer.)
We've all shot bows that said 45 # that felt like 55#, and visa versa.
What bows in your opinions, feel like 45# but shoot like 50# or more ? Smoooooothe drawing bows that feel like less weight then they are, but still have the performance of 50#.
Hope I made sense and got my thoughts across to you.

I would go with something in the 60 to 62 inch range, I think a Schafer or Robertson Stykbow is what you are looking for.

Check out the A&H ACS bows.
They say they shoot 10 percent more than what the poundage is. (45# shoots comparable to 49.5#).
They are one of the ads on the top of this opening page.

Hi Ia, 3 of the bows I have draw smooth & feel lighter than they are. 62" Brackenbury Quest, 60" Rose Oak T/D, & 58" Border Black Douglas.
Other bows that I've heard about fitting this criteria are Silvertips, Blacktails, Zippers & Balistiks.
Good luck!

62" Dalaa. You'll even have a few pounds of "tweaking" available.

Get a hold of a bow with a short riser and long limbs. Seems to me (they) are easy on the draw and pack a good punch.
Jay Kidwell also made mention of this in his book "Instinctive Archery Insights". My draw is 26", so I like bows 60" and longer that feel smooth as silk for all day shootin'.

I have a similar situation and have been on the prowl for such a bow(s) for years.
I have an ACS CX on order due to the comments from some owners about the its hard-hitting qualities in a lighter weight. I have never shot one, so my personal experience is of no use to you.
I have not weighed the bow, but it sure seems lighter than its marked weight. I have a Robertson Vision with the same weight, but its pull seems 2-3 pounds heavier.
Another bow I own and enjoy is the Wes Wallace Mentor with a weight also feeling lighter than its marked poundage.

DAS bows are like that, and as already noted, you can adjust the weight several pounds.

Do yourself a favor and try a TurkeyCreek Longbow When I received my first one I felt like I could draw it past my ear. It felt that smooth and easy to draw and that bow was 57#s at 28"s. Between the standard Boo cores, the 62" length, and the limb design this bow is hard to beat. There might be a few on the classifieds if your interested.

If you want similar to the DAS but a wood riser, check out the Morrison ILF risers or new Shawnee carbon foam limbs.

Faced with the same dilemma I ordered an ACS a few years ago and ended up with two of them. I was able to drop draw weight from 55 down to 49 with out giving up any speed and gained a lot in accuracy and confidence. The bow is as smooth as anything I have shot, and that includes more than a few!

border, robertson, or anything with ILF limbs like the DAS, WARF, etc...
I heard the opposite about the A+H bows...that they actually feel heavier than marked...but than is just from one or two posts...I do not have personal experience with those like I do with the above-mentioned products.

My Kanati R/D longbow definitely shoots harder than its 46# draw weight. Jason Kendall is located in Forest City,IA, and is a great guy to deal with to boot.

figure this one out. One of my shrew's that pulls #46 shoots ONLY 11 FPS slower than one of my pronghorn's that pulls #59 with the same 540gr. arrow! My vote is for shrew.

Steve
give me a call and come try out a couple or we can meet at the Fin & Feather to shoot. I have a couple of 47# bows that feel smooth and light and will flat out smoke a 500 grn arrow... MOAB longbow and M Massie recurve. I have hunted with both and can recommend them. cell 321-1414
