Questions: Crester chuck and arra spine.
« on: January 01, 2008, 10:22:00 PM »
Hey all.  I hope everyone started the New Year off on the right foot.

I have two questions.  First I recently bought a homemade crester from a fellow trad ganger.  I   think  the motor is out of a sewing machine but not certain.  I measured the motor shaft at an OD of 0.188 inches.  Does anyone know the ID of the crester chuck sold by the big trad dealers?  Or anyone have any ideas on what I could do for a chuck on the crester?  I woudl like to stay away from rubber hose for now, unles it is my only option.

I will get in touch with a dealer in a few days, but I lost my voice when I was sick and right now sound like a teen in puberty.

Also, my father in law gave me his old Kodiak Magnum (early or mid 60s for those wondering).  Anyway its 45lbs.  I have some 160 grain Snuffers I would like to hunt with next year and wondered if the arra spine gurus here on the gang could give me an idea where to get started in cedar shafts (11/32's).  I seem to draw just short of 28, prolly 27.5 or so.  I am going back to cedar's because I have used lam birch and ash the last few years and am tried of fighting with them to get straight.  What say you???     :notworthy:

Dunno about the crester chuck. I'd probably wind up with 50-55 lb shafts cut 28.5"

For the chuck on my homemade crester I used a rubber grommet made to fit in a half inch pvc pipe. I drilled a 5/16" hole half way through one side and a hole slightly smaller than my motor shaft from the other. Just pushed it on the shaft with a little Goop glue. Arrows just push in the 5/16 side. Hope this helps.  Bob

Thanks for the help guys.

Can someone tell me if the Bohning Pro Crester replacement chuck is metal or plastic?

Stay safe.
