Trad pics

I have had my digicam out a few times this year. I have it in my fanny pack. The temps have only been in the hi 30s so far. When I went take some pics I find the camera acts like the batteries are dead and will work fine once it warms up. Lithium batts I think. Is this the norm for digicams or do I need to try a different battery?

Not normal.  Should come on in just a few seconds.  Havent done a study on my camera on different temp though.  Lithium batteries are the best.

Put a handwarmer in the pack next to the camera to keep it warm, works like a champ.

Yep, I had the same problem shooting my son's football game in cold weather, the camera responded sluggishly. It was the batteries. Once they got warmed up it worked fine.

The idea of a hothands next to the camera is a good idea. I'm going to have to use that this year as it gets colder.

I live in Saskatchewan, so it gets ...COLD.  Does anyone know what type of batteries work best in sub-zero temps?  (i.e. Lithium? Nickel-Cadmium? Nickel-Metal Hydride? Alkaline? etc...)

Allan,

I would think that the Lithium would work the best. I would definitely suggest you use the idea of putting one of those hand warmer packets next to the camera to keep it and the batteries warm.
