Nikon d80
« on: March 05, 2008, 06:01:00 PM »
Anyone played with this model?  Compared it today at the camera store side by side with a d60.  Deffinetly favouring the d80. Seems very user friendly, and a nice way to jump head first into the world of DSLR.  Hopefully I can find one used, though the clerk at the store tried everything to talk me out of that idea.

I've had a D-80 for almost a year and love it.  Bought it on "that auction site" as a reconditioned model.  No problems.

I also have a D70 with 5-6 lens/external flash. The D80 seems like a well built camera. Keep in mind, if you want pic's that pop, your going to have to invest in some good lens. The Nikkor 18-200 VR seems to be the cats meow right now and that lens will set you back $650 or so. The kit lens do OK but there is a big difference between the pro level glass and kit lens, regardless of the body they sit on.

I have a Nikon D300, had a D50, D70,D80 and a D1h. For low light shooting its hard to beat the D1h. Low MP but in a pro body you wont be able to tell if you stick to nothing bigger then a 8x10. The D80 is a great camera also, but like the op said you need to buy some good glass for it. The 80 you can use most all of nikons lenses, the D60 you can only use AFS lenses, so you dont have as many to pic from and the prices can get real high on some. I might stay away from the 18-200 because its not so great in low light, slower is the main reason. Look for glass in the 2.8 or faster range.

the D80 is an excellent camera and I would favor it over the D60 or D70.  i bought this camera for my son and he has taken some awesome images with it. depending on you use and pocketbook you won't go wrong with this camera.

if you would like to do some comparisons check out a site called "DPReview".  www.dpreview.com
