I took this pic at one of my spots before the fires earlier this year.
 

This area held good numbers of deer until the fires, went for a quick look the other day and not a single sign of deer
none of the wallows have been touched, not a single track old or new no evidence that deer were here at all.
There is plenty of feed as the improved pasture is 6" to 8" thick of grass and clover and 2 x spring fed dams.
I can only conclude that the deer have been wiped out and no longer exist in this area.

I hope they have merely moved to where there is cover. They would likely feel naked out in a wide-open pasture.

I can imagine how desolate your special place feels to you now. Drastic change, especially where one has spent many hours learning and delighting in the inhabitants, is gut-wrenching and depressing. Nature will win out in the end, though, left to her own devices. Have faith and read up on what happened in Yellowstone, here in the US, after its fires.

great photo i know what your talking about my samber grounds was between toolangi and the yea river at murrindindi there is not a lot of movment yet but give it time the will come back.

Fire can be a good thing, lot's of fresh eats and tick removing ash. They will be back.
