Who shoots 40# @26"???

I'm thinking of ordering my new Shrew @40#@my 26"draw,Just wondering who shoots that same set-up for whitetails. I decided to go down in weight and improve on my accuracy.I figured I could have more fun with the low weight bow during hunting season and 3D shoots.What Axis size shaft would be good for this set-up.

i think your gonna have to load up on point weight with any of the axis shafts..... i'd also look into the ce150s..... Im shooting about the same weight as you and shoot woodies and carbons..but am seriously thinking of looking into some 1916s in aluminum...I'd recommend a good sharp 2 blade and enough arrow weight to help out with penetration..... I see you are from Michigan...We are having a bunny stomp on feb 16th...keep an eye out on the michigan trad bowhunter forum and the powwow for info...wed love to have ya...

You could use the Easton Epic 600s. A less expensive version of the AXIS

i thought the same thing about the epic 600... my only problem with that shaft is it is only 6.4 grains pers inch... so im guessing you'd be somewhere around 375 grains for arrow weight..assuming a 125 head....thats pretty light for good penetration and a 40# bow....

You can shoot the 500 axis but need to leave them long.You will still most likely need 175gns on the front.The 600s would be a better choice.You can always slip weight tubes in them if you really want a heavier arrow.jmo

That's over 9gpp with the 600s Steve and he could up it to 150 head pretty easy. Plenty of weight for whitetails.

dave ..youre right...i did my math wrong! It would actually be around 350 with a 30" arrow..which would still be very close to 9 grains per inch... now ya got me thinkin!!

He'd have a real good FOC also which would help.

I'm shooting 40# @ 26" out of my recurve with 1916s, 28" long and 145 gr. points. This gives me about a 450 gr. arrow. Consider the Easton Epic 600s, if you are into carbon shafts.-Dave

David, I am currently shooting Axis 500's cut to 28" with 200 grains up front. They fly and penetrate great. I am shooting 46# @ 28". I just experimented with point weight until I found a combination that worked. I have never shot a Shrew but from what I hear about them That should be plenty of bow to kill a deer. Sharp two blade broadhead and good arrow placement! Of course good arrow placement is important no matter what your set up is.
