carbon arrow setup weight?
« on: January 09, 2008, 07:11:00 PM »
I'm shooting a 55# @ 28 longbow, my draw length is 29.5. G/T 55/75 carbons 100 gr. insert, 100 gr. adapter, 160 gr. head... total 679 gr. with the 32" shaft minus the nock and fletching.
I wanted a heavy foc arrow but something doesn't sound right with this.

Also, my son will be shooting G/T 33/55 from a 50# @ 28, his drw is 27.5. Thinking about using the same insert and adapter for his, but not sure if I should set him up with 125 gr. or 190 gr. head.

Any help from you arrow Gurus would be great.

Thanks,

Keith

Keith have you bareshaft tuned those shafts? I'm no expert, but that is a heck of a lot of weight up front....?

I just got off the phone with Charlie and he said I'm way heavy up front. How do you think adding trimmer line to the shaft would be?

Dave, I haven't bare shafted them yet, still trying to get everything set up. I have a few different options to go with up front, just need to figure out what works.

MY SET UP IS A35/55 GT. 100GR MAGNUS II 75GR STEEL ADAPTER 2-50GR SCREW IN WEIGHTS.ON THE NOCK END I USE 3-20GR SCREW IN WTS.PLUS NOCK ADAPTER.MY ARROW IS 30.5" MY BOW IS A WIDOW RECURVE 3/16 PAST CENTER 41LBS AT 30". this arrow shoots as well with feathers as without. I THINK THEY WEIGHT 570 GRAINS.

Keith,
I shoot a 58lb St.Joe River longbow with the 55/75 goldtips. I put in a 100gr brass insert, then put a 150gr. head up front. Bareshafted almost perfect with a 29" arrow. Great penetration on deer also.
I would drop 100gr. off the front end. Either the adapter or insert.
I was skeptical when I first put mine togather. I thought the FOC would be all out of wack, but like I said they fly like darts.

Going to be hitting the range tomorrow night with everything. Going to be trying a few different setups to see what works the best. Guess I just had it in my mind that the more weight I could add up front the better the penetration. I still wouldn't mind trying my origional setup with the trimer line in the shaft. Good grief, I think I'll be shooting telephone poles outta my boy!
