When I make a bow for myself I use what others would consider firewood for the challenge

This bow was made from a 4" sprout, twisted, doglegged, full of rotten wood and wind shakes.

First I had to fill a very rotten knot that didn't go all the way through. It went to within 1/16" of the back.

Next i had to soak a punky knot on the edge of the limb with superglue.

I inletted a piece of osage burl for a strike plate.

Made some skinny 3/8" tips with burl overlays.

I had some very old, short copperhead skins with no color so I dyed the bow to bring them out.

Added some lettering to finish it off.

Two days before my hunt it appeared there might be a splinter popped under the skin on the back. A little scraping  confirmed my fears so a super glued thread wrap was in order and I was ready to go hunting yesterday.
