2008 Success Thread
« on: September 23, 2008, 12:30:00 PM »
I don't think I've seen a success thread here this fall and I always enjoy everyone's successes.  So the rest of you pile right on with your harvests!  (And if I've overlooked such a thread and the mods want to pull this one, that's fine.).

I'll start with this Nebraska buck taken on our third day of the season, 9/17/08, on a night with temps in the 80s and a full moon.  I was on the Platte River bottom in the eastern part of the state.  I've got one shed antler from this buck in each of the last two seasons, and actually passed him up on the last day of the 07 season (very tough decision).  10 yard heart shot with Woodsman head, 55# Pronghorn Takedown Longbow.

And a second photo to share.  This one three days later, 9/20/08, on the same property when I filled one of our antlerless tags on a Saturday morning which allowed for an opportunity for me to get my girls out on a blood trail and also all the other tasks that follow a successful 15-yard heart/lung shot with the same equipment as before.  Looking forward to all your tales of success as well.

Congratulations Bryce on the buck and the doe.  I like seeing kids in the photos also.  Enjoyed reading your stories on your hunts with your daughter.

Very cool Bryce!!! Neat that you had some history with that buck and neat that you have your kids involved in hunting with you!!!
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Great Job Wary Buck!
Big congrats!
My opening day was this past Saturday the 20th,
and I beat you my friend, you only killed two, I killed about 30,000............mosquitos!
The woods I hunt are finally drying up from the summer rain, but my thermacell, ok, both thermacells, worked overtime just keeping me in my blind!
Seriously, no luck this past weekend, no one in my camp shot anything and very few deer or hogs were even seen. Who knows why, maybe the moon phase, heat...etc
It is finally cooling off this week and I will be out there this weekend from Thursday until Sunday.
With a little luck...who knows? If all goes well, I will post pics.
Again, great job Wary Buck!

As a side note,
I did catch a rare Gulf Hammock Rat Snake in a friends cabin.
I have never seen one before and it was a chore getting the other guys to sleep in there Saturday night!
I released the snake unharmed but it was cool to see such a rare snake.

Way to go Bryce! You've done it again- saw you at the NTA rendevous. If you happen to talk to your brother Kevin, let him know I said hello and good luck this year he is/was a great mentor to me at Scheels. I'm heading out west myself to the Broken Bow area(moving) I figure I've got at least another 25 years of good hunting left in me and out west would be a great place to spend it.

Congrats on some real dandys, Bryce!  You're gonna need to start another book.

Congrats Bryce.  Glad to see someone's finding the game.  Mike Mitten and myself just returned from Colorado where the elk pretty much kicked our butts:^(

I went squirrel hunting last week. Caught one, but it was too small so I threw it back.

This is a fat little 7 pointer I took last night just before dark. I love bow hunting.
