Colorado Explores Walk in Hunting in Western Part Of State
« on: November 29, 2006, 09:29:00 PM »
The Colorado Division of Wildlife is seeking to determine landowner interest for a walk-in hunting access program in San Miguel, Montrose and Mesa counties.

Landowners whose property attracts turkeys and geese can receive payment for allowing hunters on their land.

The walk-in access program has been in place for several years on the Eastern Plains where landowners provide hunters access for small game hunting. Hunters are required to buy an access permit in addition to their small game license. Only walking access is allowed, and only specified species can be hunted. The program is now being introduced in western Colorado.

The program in western Colorado is for turkey hunting in the spring and goose hunting in the fall.

A meeting to explain the program is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Dec. 6 at the Redvale Community Center. Landowners unable to attend can contact Mark Caddy, district wildlife manager at the Montrose DOW office, 1-970-252-6000.
