NAIS National Animal Identification System
« on: December 19, 2006, 07:11:00 PM »
Does anyone raise livestock of any sort, chickens, anything? Is everyone familiar with the NAIS, National Animal Identification System. Sounds good right, wrong. It is very bad for our nation as a whole, the only ones that benefit from this is the big companies that have huge chicken and cow farms where the quality of these animals is questionable at best. It will hurt the small farmers that produce food for their family and their close friends and nieghbors where the quality of these animals is much much better, hence helathier. Small farms will have to shut down potentially costing hunters thousands of acres of hunting lands as they get developed into condos and such.
By fully integrating the NAIS it will hurt the health of our nation as a whole, because you will take a lot of the healthier options way from most Americans forcing them to eat the diseased and pumped up animals.
It is on a topic I feel strongly about, I raise chickens, and ducks and would like to raise a few other things. The introduction of the NAIS is going to make it very hard for most people to do this. It will require many licenses and forms and fees for the simple, before now, freedom to own and raise your own livestock. The larger businesses would only have to register one for every thousand, making a lot easier for them and taking most competition, not really competition just people wanting to eat healthy.
I encourage everyone to oppose this in any way you can. The full implementation of the NAIS will be disastrous for many individuals, small farmers, hunters, and our nation as a whole.

John you should post some links that explain this fully for folks and perhaps some that lead to places where folks can do something about it.

this is the website for the USDA NAIS program itself.       www.usda.gov/nais

this is a website that will help to inform you about the actual intentions of this program

Here are some sites, I hope this helps, the NAIS is not good for America. It is being introduced by misguided information. They ask people if they would feel better if they had a tracking system for birds and other livestock to help prevent disease. Most people would say yes, it sounds like a good idea, never mind there are already systems in place. The whole story is not known to many Americans, and it is saddening to think that most wouldn't care anyway even if they knew about the impact our health is getting because of this. Help stop this, as it damaging many aspects of our lives.
