BILL:389

Proposed by:Debby Barrett R-Dillon

Phone# 406/681-3177

This bill was entered on 1/18/07.

I know nothing about it beyond this so some MT residents may want to get the details.

I know the Montana Bowhuters Association is opposing this bill,
I feel the states Elk Management plan should be rewritten BUT not in the way it is being proposed now, This bill would give money from sportsmens licenses dollars to the landowner who leases out his land to outfitters and is closed to all public hunting for crop depredation.
The current Elk Managment plan puts a cap on the number Elk that inhabit some Wildlife refuges and
National Forest lands, the reasoninbg is the Elk compete with Cattle for forage and we can't have that in the west.

Yes the MBA is fighting this one as well as about a half dozen other proposed acts of lunacy.

The bill has a $500,000 per annum general fund provision, If it makes it out of the Ag and FWP committees then the MT House and Senate Appropriations Committees will be looking closely at this...there in lies the key grasshopper--

The Montana Wildlife Federation is fighting this one with us.

Go to the MBA website:  www.mtba.org  and hit links, it will take you to the Montana legislature website, which is one of the best in the nation IMO for being able to stay on top of what our elected representatives are doing to us.
