New Jersey DEP Leftover Turkey Tags on Sale Now
« on: April 05, 2007, 01:24:00 PM »
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife leftover wild turkey hunting permits sale began Monday, April 2, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Permits will be available for purchase at participating license agents during their individual operating hours, and they will also be available 24 hours a day at  www.wildlifelicense.com/nj/  through the Integrated Electronic Licensing System (IELS).

Permits will be available on a first come first serve basis only. Permits are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. Permits purchased over the Internet will be mailed to buyers within 7 - 10 days of the time of purchase. A shipping and handling fee will be charged by the vendor handling the automated sales site for the Division of Fish and Wildlife. A valid 2007 hunting license number (CID#) must be provided to purchase a permit via the Internet. You may use Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or E-Check to pay for your permit(s) purchase.

Hunters are advised that Internet buyers will likely get all of the leftover permits for high demand zones and hunting periods several minutes after the sales begin. (zones/periods that have very few permits leftover)

Hunters opting to go to a participating license agent should make sure they have their Conservation ID number (CID#) and their date of birth on hand for the license agent. The Division urges hunters to know prior to arrival what zone and period they want and write that down so that there is less chance for errors at a license agent. It is NOT the responsibility of the store proprietor or clerk to know what Turkey Hunting Area your property is located in. Hunters are also urged to check all their permits immediately upon receipt. There are NO REFUNDS and NO EXCHANGES once a permit is paid for and the purchaser leaves the store. Each agent location is different, please check their store hours and find out what forms of payment will be accepted.

The following zone and period table lists all permits that will be available over the counter beginning at 10:00 a.m. on April 2, 2007. Once the sale begins these numbers will no longer be accurate. For a live time, detailed report showing the precise number of permits available, please visit the License Web Site's Zone/Period Availability Report. As the sale progresses you might want to check the live-time leftover permit table, as it will be continually updated.

Youth Turkey Hunting Day is Saturday, April 14, 2007. Youths must have a 2007 Spring Turkey Season hunting permit in order to hunt. This date is considered a one-day early extension of the Y week permit that the youth holds. Remember, youths are guaranteed their first permit; it will be designated as Period Y, which is good from the Youth Turkey Day and periods A, B, C, D, E and G. The youth must hunt in the Turkey Hunting Area designated on the Permit. Any permits over and above their first permit will come out of the permit quota.

The only Division office that will be open for permit sales is the Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural Resource Education Center, nine miles west of Hackettstown on Rt. 46 in Oxford, Warren County. There are NO Turkey Permit sales at any other Division offices this year.
