Protect our Privilege to Bowhunt
« on: December 07, 2008, 01:53:00 AM »
Hey everyone, I’d just like to take a moment to remind each of you that our PRIVILEGE to bowhunt and participate in our hobby of traditional archery, is possible primarily because we have a Constitutional RIGHT to keep and bear arms.  As I’m sure most of you are aware, there are plenty of people and organizations out there who would love to take away both.

I’m sure that most of you fellow Traditional Bowhunters and Archers support the second amendment to our U.S. Constitution, and I’d guess that many of you are already members of the National Rifle Association.  However, many like me may have let their memberships expire.  I’d like to encourage any of you who are in the same boat as me to join with me and renew or start your membership on Inauguration Day, Jan 20, 2009.  In this way, without walking around and holding a sign, you’re sending a subtle message to the incoming administration that you want to protect the right to keep and bear arms. God bless each and all.

I agree that we need to join the NRA if we are not members; to make a show of force.

I do not agree that hunting is a priviledge; and it is not in some states- it is a declared right.

Not all rights are enumerated in the constitution; hunting is a human right. We hunt because we have a natural desire to do so; and time has proven- that hunting with a bow and arrow does good things to ones mind.

Thanks for reminding us to join the NRA -I also think we should get others to join the NRA !!

I'll pass. I don't trust the NRA do do what is right with my dues. I don't see why Jan. 20th should make a bit of difference either. Your rights ARE protected 365/24/7 and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court.

if the supreme court justices retire - and they are expected to - and they are replaced with those that believe the constitution was made: to reflect the ideologies and social structure that existed at the time of the writing of the constitution....
Then the 2nd amendment could easily be interpreted as a right of the army to have guns - not the people.
The President appoints those in the supreme court.

 You know - CHANGE.

It is idiotic to think a country would have an amendment protecting the right of its army to have weapons- but there is no lack of that type of thinking.
What other country since the beginning of time; had to make a law: that its army could have weapons?
But that is exactly the threat we face. I just joined the NRA to make a political statement; the more people that do; the bigger the statement.

It's idiotic to think that Barack Obama is against the 2nd amendment.

If you truly believe that then you might want to read up on Barack Hussein Obama, his past voting record, and some of the things he has said he will do as POTUS.

Ya'll remember that T.V. sitcom "All in the Family"? I one episode Archie and "Meathead" were
"discussing" gun control" Archie said something to the effect of " If everybody carried guns, there'd be less crime." The audence or laugh track laughed uproariously.
You know what? The passage of time since that particular episode of "All in the Family" has shown that to be a true statement.
But the stupid politicans just don't get the message. Call the cops and they'll get there in time to take you to the moruge.

I renewed my NRA membership the morning after the election. I also gave my son a gift membership the same day.

Maybe my wife will join on Jan. 20th.

It is right on track.  People need to be aware of threats to the 2nd amendment (from both foreign and domestic).  If that falls, then the 1st can fall.  And so it goes.  The NRA is an outstanding organization that needs support from all law abiding, freedom loving Americans.

Insulting the President elect and arguing over politics is off track. This forum exists for the sharing of information on threats and laws affecting Traditional Bow Hunting. The NRA does protect the right to hunt with archery equipment. Keep it within that context and everything is good.

I don't see where anybody insulted the president-elect.

However, I did send Bravedeer a couple of PMs with some factual information on Barack Hussein Obama's historical stance on the 2nd amendment, not the fluff he was spouting in October and November in an effort to draw sportsmen's votes, mainly because he realizes that sportsmen are a powerful enough group that they can win and/or lose an election for a candidate..

First of all, your obsession with Barack Obama's middle name only shows your immaturity.

Second, you did not send me anything that proves he's against the 2nd amendment, because he is not.

Barack Obama has repeatedly said that he supports sportsmen. He also believes in gun control, specially in urban areas. Gun control does not mean that he's against the 2nd amendment, it simply means that he believes in strict gun control laws to assure that those who are getting a gun in urban areas are not mentally unstable or criminals. I hope you can open your mind to understand that this is not a black or white issue, after all Obama is really brown.

Hand gun control is not a Traditional Archery related subject nor is semiautomatic weapon control. I know where it can all lead etc. But this forum was specifically created for hunting issues and politics pertaining to Traditional Archery.

Join an organization that suits your beliefs and do what you need to to defend them. That point has been made and the thread serves no further purpose.
