Oklahoma Public Hunting Area could be lost
« on: September 24, 2009, 12:44:00 AM »
Guys, here we go again. The US Army Corp of Engineers has decided to sell our public Hunting area here in the Oklahoma Panhandle. Yes, Optima is once again on the chopping block. For those of you that don't know about this well kept secret, Optima is 14,000 acres of prime white-tail hunting along with bobwhite quail, blue quail, pheasant, mule deer and prairie dog hunting locate in the middle of the Oklahoma Panhandle. It is a stop for bird watchers, hikers, campers, and just a place to take your children or grand children for an outdoor experience. The great thing about Optima is that is ours! Not just those of us that live in Oklahoma but, all United States citizens. We can just go there, we don't have to ask or pay a lease or anything other than get in the pick-up and go. We have formed an organization that we are calling the Optima Public Lands Coalition. We will have a more formal organizational meeting at a future date. For those of you that don't live close, we need your help too. The phone numbers for our senators and congressmen are included in this thread, we need you to call them because today it is Optima, who knows what the next target will be. The outdoors shouldn't just be for the aristocracy of our country, it should be for everyone. This is just the kind of thing that the anti-hunters and gun control advocates revel in. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail them to me or call me at 806 339 4343. Please forward this to your friends. Thank you for your help J. Bryon Test Panhandle Archers Here are the phone numbers for the Oklahoma folks. Please ring their phones off of the hook and let them know to keep public lands public! I will say that the corps relies on funding to operate its areas. pay attention to who has cut public funding.
