Geese?

I've been thinking about hunting geese ( and maybe ducks ) with my longbow, but someone I know recently told me that it's not legal. Something about having only one projectile. I remember reading an article years ago about bow hunting waterfowl, so I wonder if the laws have changed.
I live in southern Ontario, but waterfowl are federally regulated, so it should be the same everywhere in Canada and, I think, in the U.S.A.
Does anyone know the law?

Dave,  I use modified flu flu's made from three -4" pieces of full length / width feathers.  These slow it down enough, but yet allow it to go far enough to actually make it to the geese (in a field, over decoys).

We had issues with more feathers slowing it down too much.

Thanks for the info Chuck. I'll have to get some flu flu's made up. I was also thinking of stalking into shooting range of feeding or loafing geese, as well as shooting from a layout blind. That would get some birds in almost on top of me.    Even a newb like me should get a goose at that range.

I use the same feather set-up as ChuckC. With full length Flu-Flus my arrows travel about 50yds. (shooting at 45deg angle)

I trim them down to about 7/8" and they go about 75-80 yds with good speed for the first 25-30yds.

I played around with fether height and until I got down to about 1" I didn't start picking up range. Obviously results may vary.

Also I use the widest 2 blade broadhead I can because of the small kill zone. I have some I'd be willing to send you to try out. PM me and I'll give you some additional info on broadhead set-up and may have some I can send you gratis.

Now the hard part...getting my gun toting buddies to let me shoot first so I have a fighting chance...lol

David, that beautiful bow rests on the top of my bow rack. I love shooting it and I'm getting to be a better shot. I don't get a lot of practice time, but I'm taking it hunting when I'm confident of my skills. If I can get good and close, I know I can make a clean shot.

Dave it is Legal in Saskatchewan, I attempted to try this year, but work got in the way, but next year it is on my list.

Water fowl hunting is regulated by the Migratory Bird Convention Act and regulations, section 15 of the regulations state 15. (1) Subject to subsections (4) and (5) and section 23.1, no person shall hunt a migratory bird

(a) except with a long bow and arrow or with a shotgun not larger than number 10 gauge;

If it's legal in Saskatchewan, it's also legal here in Ontario. Those are federal regs.

Unfortunately, I hardly hunted at all this past season. At least I did get out and kill some stumps with my osage bow.
