PA Traditional Archery Season

Just now seeing this thread...there are pluses and minuses to this.

Allowing trad only to hunt Sundays just means we're going to get individuals who are NOT proficient by any means with a trad bow picking one up and marching out into the woods with it just to be able to hunt on Sunday. That is the number one thing I think we want to try and avoid.

I love the idea of having a non-stop season for us, but in order to include Sunday's I think Sunday's need to be allowed for all other weapon types first. We can't just be rewarded with an extra day that no one else gets just because we choose to pursue game "the hard way". All that will do is bring unwanted negative attention in my opinion.

A lot of times, depending on the weather, the action is still great right when the season ends in November. I really don't think the low number of trad hunters would have a significant impact on the population either.

Interested to see if this ever gains any traction...

I'm not sure I understand the situation but if this is about traditional-only and no one else in the woods then ....If such a thing were proposed in my state I would gather a bunch of trad hunters like myself and go to the Commission meeting and OPPOSE it.  

Most states in the east already have a non-stop trad season we just share it with other bowhunters.   I guess you are talking about states where when gun seasons start archers have to stop? Well we did away with that in KY and IN years ago. I can hunt with my curve from 1st Sat. in Sept through mid-January, non-stop. I do believe in and support that.

By the way comments about "hard way" doesn't jive with some trad hunters who claim curves and LBs are more deadly (quick shooting) than compounds. Having your cake and eating it too can choke a man.  I cringe thinking about the comments a trad hunter would make in public to justify such special treatment. There is a much greater chance of doing the trad hunter's reputation harm than doing good.

I really don't like to say it but PA will continue to embrace an increase in technology enhancements and allow for them into the archery season before they will ever allow for a traditional archery season. Its a shame to see the archery season slip away to crossguns, more deer drives and increased technology enhancements to make things easier for those that don't care or have a clue as to archery's identity.

We should be asking ourselves as to where we draw the line on archery equipment and how does the advancements in archery equipment impact our season(s)? A traditional only archery season would not impact the archery season and could be expanded past what we currently have now in PA. Do we draw the line after a bolt is fired out of a crossgun with a 209 primer?
