Anyone ever have any luck putting a woodsman on 5/16 Dia. arrows and having them straight.

You can put them on and get them straight, however, you'll have a lip at the junction of shaft and head.
This will bother you shooting into 3D deer or foam target but shouldn't be a problem on game or burlap target. You could always grind off some of the lip before you mount the head. If you do that, weigh them on a grain scale to make sure you get the weights the same.

I shoot arrows that are tapered to 5/16 at the business end. Yes the lip is there; but I don't worry about it too much. And whatever glue ons I have used are on there straight or not at all.

Like Bjorn said, 11/32 broadheads on 5/16 shafts works just fine. I mounted WW's on some 5/16 lam birch with no problems at all and the deer couldn't tell the diff either. Grind your tapers to match the ferrule and they will mount easily.
One advantage to this is that there is no stress line where the shaft taper meets the back of the head ferrule. This makes for a stronger joint at the shaft/head junction.
